Don't Let Resistance Beat You

Hey everyone,

Recently I have been having some trouble staying focused on here. This past weekend I had to play a gig in another city 4 hours away. I brought my laptop to hopefully get some work done, but with no internet and no time to write, I got discouraged and didn't do any work.

Then the next day I was so tired from teaching and doing other things that I didn't get any work done on Monday or Tuesday. I then started to get a familiar feeling. I wanted to get back to work but the feeling kept creeping up on me.

I had been working constantly every day on my website for about a month. But after missing only 2-3 days my brain is just telling me to give up. It's so weird how our minds work like that.

I do realize that the more my brain fights what I want to do, then that means I should do it even more.

I recently listened to an audio book by a Steven Pressfield called "The War of Art". In this book he talks about an artist's or entrepreneur's biggest enemy. No it's not analytics or criticism, it is a thing called resistance.

Resistance is basically our minds way of holding us back from doing what we want to do in life. It holds us back from achieving our dreams or pursuing our passions.

Now I realize that the familiar feeling I had was resistance creeping in. It was telling me to just start tomorrow, or to wait a few days before I could work more. It kept saying no to me when I knew I should get started again.

Resistance is really a huge bitch. It fucks with you over and over again.

I am sending this message to anyone that wants to listen...

Don't let resistance get to you. The more resistance you feel towards something, the more you should pursue that thing.

If you are feeling resistance towards writing a post or doing work on your site, then that means you should do those things and not hold them off. The more you delay your work, the more resistance wins.

Don't let it win. You'll hate yourself for it.

Hello and thanks for sharing, yes putting things off gets us nowhere.
I try and be consistent every day even if that means I only get a small amount of content written.
One thing I do is put notes and ideas on the notebook on my phone and also have a small notebook to write ideas down.
All the best and have a great week
Darren :)
