Hamburgers and Hot Dogs
I love hamburgers and hot dogs. As far as the world goes these or our American food Icons. Often copied but never duplicated. For example Bratwurst says Germany as Hot Dog says American. To name one.
Hot dogs:
They come several different ways. Just go to the grocery store and you will be amazed at how many variations there are. To name a few, start with all the brands like Oscar Mayer, Nathans, etc. How about all the different types like, Ball Park Franks (just another name for hot dogs), Turkey hot dogs (we all know what they are), foot longs (long Johns) and the list goes on. Of course there are the health conscious dogs like turkey franks, low sodium, and no nitrates.
Hot dogs with sauerkraut, add a little mustard, try catsup, onions. The toppings are so numerous it’s limited by your taste and imagination. I love Chicago dogs, Chili dogs, and ball park franks.
There are several recipes that are based on hot dogs alone.
Bacon wrapped hot dogs:

- 2 hot dogs cut in the middle
- Shredded cheddar cheese sprinkled in the middle
- 1 slice of bacon wrapped around the 2 dogs.
- 1 or 2 hot dogs for each member of the family or guests
Place in the oven on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 until the bacon is done. Add some baked beans as a side dish with salad and you have a great family meal.
Hamburgers:
No BBq, or lunch would be complete without offering a hamburger. The American invention that spread around the world.
Think of hamburger and I’ll bet at least five places to eat one comes to mind. Hamburgers are in a class of their own. There are round burgers, square burgers, oblong shapes, hamburgers with holes in the middle, the list goes on. Although we predominantly use the flat round patty. Usually we take a hand full of ground beef, round it into a ball and flatten it out. Which makes a good burger. However to add some seasoning of your choice to the uncooked meat makes it a great burger. Add a slice of sharp cheddar cheese, top with lettuce and tomato, spread with condiment of choice and there you have it. However let’s not forget how important the hamburger bun is. That’s a whole new category in itself. Choose your bun wisely, a good or bad bun can make or break you hamburger.
