My Drive to Succeed Keeps Me Up at Night

This might sound a little COO COO but sometimes I feel like my computer is calling me when I try to sleep at night !!!

Does this happen to anyone else? Let me explain...

I tell myself "OK Ashley, Tonight you are going to go straight to your dream world ! You did all you had to do today. Now climb in your comfy bed with your special pillows and your gentle cool breeze from your Fan and start dreaming"

I put on calming sleep music and I close my eyes and try to see what I'd like to dream about.

Ahhh.

It sure does feel good to relax your body after you haven't stopped moving all day.
But what ends up happening is the complete opposite of sleep...

This relaxing few moments lasts maybe 2 minutes then I find my brain has switched to work mode and I am already mentally on my computer checking WA or emails or social sites, adding content, la la la..

So much so that my brain overrides the tiredness in my body and makes my body get up and grab my computer !

Most nights lately, I haven't been able to sleep before 2am.

Thank God its summer and sleeping in a little bit is possible for me right now but school is right around the corner and I am in trouble !!

I have heard of insomnia which can be caused by stress, health, medication, worry, coffee and some disorders BUT what do you do when you don't have Insomnia??

My sleep deprivation is caused simply by my brain being too busy!

No meditation, book, or carb meal can shut this noggin down.

The only cure is for me to get up and do everything my brain wants to do in that moment.

Then finally, it is off to dream world I go.

So in response to my brain I would say,

"Listen Brain, I love you, I appreciate all you do for me and the drive you have for my success and that of my family but we need to manage the amount of nights you want to stay on. How does 4 nights a week sound for you? Now this means that those other 3 nights, You will allow me to climb in my cozy bed with my special pillows and go straight to my dream world when I say! Do we have an agreement?"

I guess well see how this agreement works out starting tomorrow!

:)

Don't neglect your physical and mental health. Most of the time we all need enough sleep, that's the rule. Take care of your health all the time. Find a way to resolve that situation. I did have same insomnia because of the things I wanted to finish "now" all the time. I have just prayed for you. Florentino

I am grateful for your prayers Florentino and advice.

I hear what you are saying and I know I must find a balance.

I appreciate your words,

Ash

Unfortunately Ash, this happens to the best of us. The only thing that works for me is working out during the day and doing physical work. So when you go to bed your exhausted and hopefully you will sleep. It works 80 percent of the time, but when your brain is in overdrive. It’s in overdrive. Not for nothing, this is when I problem solve and figure things out in the middle of the night
Good night and good luck sleeping
Kenny 😎

Thank you Kenny for your advice. Some physical activity may work for me, i know when I spend a lot of time outside I feel drowsy so maybe I can try that.

I happens to most people here I would guess.

I have suffered the same fate for many years. Now I just place my phone next to the bed. If I can't sleep I simply go back to work.
All the best. Jim

Thanks Jim, I am happy to know I am not alone in this.

I know it sounds crazy, you are right where a lot of people wish that was the case. Yes you will be successful

Thank you :)
