What Are No-Follow Links ?
In simple words, Nofollow links are those which do not pass any link juice and these attributes do not allow search engine bots to follow link. Only humans will able to follow the link.

Best practice is to keep a good balance of (40%)Nofollow and (60%)Dofollow backlinks which keeps you safe from updates that tend to penalize you for making such backlinks. Lastly, I would like to warn you about paid links. Make sure those links are of great quality & not of any spammy links.

I always make my links to other sites Dofollow because my Yoast plugin complains when I set them to Nofollow!
This article really does explain the difference between these two types of links.
Hmm, I'll see what happens when I mix my outbound links up a bit so that they're 50/50.
Maybe Yoast is wrong in insisting that all links must be Dofollow.
