Day one, build a website. Read through all of the training material and I feel like such an ass. So I go ahead to godaddy.com to buy a domain name because it's much better to own a piece of internet real estate for a keyword you have than to have the keyword in a subdomain. Simply put, from what I've read, it just makes a lot more sense to OWN your own website than to use it amongst others. However, I had a 'I feel stoopid" moment. So I get my domain (so excited). I did my keyword research and its the perfect, targeted keyword that solves a problem in a niche that a lot of people suffer from, with low competition 2100 competing exact-match Google pages to be exact, and it just makes sense.
So then I come back to WA and I'm like "Hey, lets do this "Own My Own Domain" thing button, and it turns out I actually cannot add it to the web hosting services provided by WA. I don't feel bad at all, because I got a chance to buy a domain name that I know is going to rock. But I do feel like an ass since now I have to go pay for hosting, which is what I was completely trying to avoid. LOL stick to the program Cisco..... Stick to the program.
Well, lucky for me I consider myself pretty smart. I hopped over to RetailMeNot.com to see if there were any coupons worthwhile for both godaddy and for hostgator. (oh yea, I totally forgot to mention that I decided to go with hostgator because of Mr. Travis Sago's recommendation because he uses it and he's mad successful.... and in order to be successful, you should copy successful people, no?). And lo-'n-behold! Eureka, I found an epic coupon for godaddy that basically gave me a domain for 2 years with FREE private registration for only $12.34 (instead of $41.32). Then I found a really really nice coupon for hostgator for 25% off hosting packages.
And because I'm on a budget i decided to not go with purchasing a full-blown 2 year hosting (baby option) plan for $260 something dollars. Don't have it now and don't feel like it. So I went with the monthly plan and with the 25% off, I got it for $7.34 :). Anyway, I just set up my own website and did my own hosting myself instead of using the .siterubix availability of WA. I will use those 2 free websites wisely (unless I go Premium on WA, cuz then I'm going to immediately cancel hostgator and jump on the webhosting here ;p) So there was a bit of technical know how that I had to sift through in order to get my website up and running doing it my way.
THANK GOD for Travis' Blog Blueprint For Beginners. It totally set me on the right track and it even had step by step instructions for registering with godaddy and with hostgator and making sure that I properly installed WordPress on the site. PHEW!! If anyone wants it, shoot me an email at Cisco120 at gmail dot com I'll send it to you. It's epic. Plus it helps that he's allowed me to send it to anyone I want that might need the help.
