While Waiting for New Wifi Service, Library Services

Hello old and new friends of WA! I am really missing our interactions! I appreciate the new followers, who have no clue that I am hardly even present. Rest assured that I am no less motivated and not forgetting my friends here, who have done so much to encourage me!

Have anyone else experienced this that you move, order new internet services and have to wait for the company to meet you on their own time schedule?

I called my former company, who after 4 persons, decided that I was not covered by them in my new area, not that many miles from the former address. This was on a Friday. By the time this was ascertained, I was getting ready for evening plans and only one company was mentioned that could replace them.

By Monday, I was chomping at the bit, but no deal! I was told, after going through the sign up procedure, that my earliest connection date would be May 23rd. I squeaked! This means that I strongly, but politely protested. The customer service guy said, "Well, since I like the way the conversation has gone, I am going to work to get you an earlier connection date. My supervisor has agreed to listen to this recorded conversation and when you receive your email, you will see another phone number to call to reschedule. Call this number and request an earlier date. I can't promise anything."

I soon called this number and after very politely protesting, when meeting with resistance, an earlier date of May 15th was granted. I was happy, but still, this was not on my day off! I had about 3 hour break during which I could meet them. All I could do was to hope they could arrive in time, which I mentioned, get the job completed or they would have to pack up everything and leave before the job was done!

I realized that I might not get this to happen, so I hoped that a family member could wait at the house for me, should I have to leave, again, for work. This did not happen for me. I waited the entire allotted time, calling twice to be sure they had not failed to find my house, were still coming. The second time I called was within 10 minutes to the end of the time period granted. Since it was still showing as 'Dispatched', I expected they could arrive any time after 5 pm, anyway. I had asked if the technicians worked past 5, which was affirmed. I was reassured that they would be there. It was a no show. I was very angry, but feeling like they have us over a barrel, which made me even more angry!

Next day I could not call back. The second day, I had a little time before work and called to find out what happened. It was still in 'Dispatch' mode. After one and one half, that's 1 1/2 hours, we were able to firm another installation date, on a future day off, obviously not today! Since my customer service person was so great, so calming, I decided not to fire them, when I heard there was yet another company who could cover the area. I still plan to compare prices, now that I know this. I am sure that today would have been too soon for them to 'drop' the account into 'Dispatch' mode.

What would you do? Any ideas are welcome, including that you would 'fire' them.

I have so much to do, connected with moving, let alone business wise! I was stuck on monetizing and the need to create a new domain name.

I hope others here at WA are not getting stuck, are getting help with logistical problems and have few personal issues intervening between them and success! I have been helped, so do not become discouraged by thinking I am absent. I also hope to get back to helping others who are new or have issues with which I can help.

Thanks for your time, Lynne

Hi Lynn,
Wow, sounds like they are really putting you through the wringer here. The sad thing is that the companies that control these type of services really have us in their grips. If there are multiple providers in your area then you have more options available but this is usually not the case in most areas. Hopefully your issue will get resolved soon. Wish you the best.

Yes, these "service" companies have forgotten what the word service means. I have many similar experiences and I know it can be very frustrating.
