It comes a time on your life, when you wonder if everything you are told is correct or not. Have you been mislead or are you holding on to ways which are no long valid today.
To demonstrate this I will use an example from chemistry, in particular the naming of elements. We all know that the English and Americans spell sulfur/sulphur different, as well as Aluminium/Aluminum. This caused confusion and the body responsible for the naming of elements, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry(IUPAC) decided to meet and resolve this issue many years ago.

What came out of that meeting is that sulfur will be spelt sulfur, so that the English have been spelling it wrong. To prevent the Americans having all their own way, the spelling and pronunciation of Aluminum is Aluminium. This had been universally excepted.
