Hurricane Gilbert 35 Years Today
Today September marks 35 years since Hurricane Gilbert hit Jamaica. It made landfall at approximately 1:00 pm as a category four hurricane. It is said to be the most intense tropical cyclone on record to hit Jamaica. There were 45 deaths and an estimated over $700 million in damages. That was my first and worst experience in a hurricane. I had a less than three-month-old baby boy. The roof of our house got damaged, so we had to move to a storm shelter in the storm. We are still in hurricane season now, but we pray those terrifying days are over.
