New Ways I'm Learning to Add Keywords

All the Tools of Our Trade

I am learning to use so many tools here at Wealthy Affiliate. One the latest I am learning more about is using keywords.

Keywords are SO Important

They matter a lot in this internet marketing business of ours here at Wealthy Affiliate.

They tell what our post is about. So when a reader is looking for information, the search engines use key words to help them find it.

The more optimized our content and our use of keywords is, the more likely it is that a reader will find US instead of someone else.

Long-Tail Keywords

I love using the low-hanging fruit of long-tail keywords that Kyle teaches us about. I use Jaaxy to help me come up with the great ones. I make sure I use them in my title. I put them in the first paragraph of my post..

Then comes all my content that describes my reader's reason for coming to my post in the first place. I give him my solution and tell him all the benefits he will get out of applying my solution.

And I give a good hearty call to action.

The result- so far I have minimal traffic to my blog.

Baby Blog

My blog is only two months old. I know it is way too early to expect traffic. Kyle says three to six months, for the site to mature in the eyes of the search engines.

I get that.

At the same time I have been learning about keyword density from some of my fellow Wealthy Affiliate members.

I learned about the FREE tool http://kesor.net/keyword-density that I can use to measure my keyword density.

Measure the Keyword Density

What you do is copy your blog into the tool, and you get a quick report on every single word, two-word phrase and three-word combo, and what percent of total content they take up.

So I am experimenting with Kesor Keyword density. I am aiming for about 3% on a 3-word combination.

First I pick one of my posts that I think is especially good.

I run Kesor.

Keep It Natural

Then I select a couple of naturally occurring three-word phrases from my own content, and check them out in Jaaxy to find one that comes up great as a keyword for my content.

Then I pepper the phrase naturally throughout my content.

What I am finding as a rule of thumb is that I need about 30 occurrences of the keywords to get to that 3% threshold in my 1200 word post.

Use Your Prime Real Estate

I don't want having the keyword show up to get unnatural by overuse, so I use some of the real estate in my post.

One place is the alt description of my images. I put it in there for each image. I have even put them in a caption on the image when I needed to put in more naturally to get to my threshold.

In the bottom where we put in the title and the description for the post, I make sure I have the keyword phrase in both places.

Those are the places I call my prime real estate for keywords.

So the experiment is running.

Tell Me Your Results Please

Anne - Great post. Kesor is an excellent tool and helps me get the right combination of keyword density. Thanks for the very helpful information.

Thank you for the keyword density tool Annie. :)

I think getting really good at using keywords is a skill and something we are continually having to work at.

I have not tried a strategy like yours. I'm sure it in combination with time and probably a lot of other factors you're not even aware of yet will improve your traffic and conversions.

Hi Annie, thank you for your explanation of this. Keywords have always been something just out of my grasp (understanding). Just when I think I get it, I find that I really don't! LOL! Your explanation and the addition of this new tool will help, I know!

I wish you the very best,
Sue
