Hero's Journey: Part 4

The Hero's Journey metaphor by Joseph Campbell has seemed very apropos to my experience so far with Wealthy Affiliate. At first we say “Yes” to the call and sign up with great expectations. Then we enter the forest where no one else has gone before by choosing a “path into the woods” aka finding a niche that is being approached in our own unique way.

Then there is a period of being “lost in the woods.” I’m still lost in the woods—and that’s OK, it's a necessary part of the creative process. Campbell compares it to being in “the belly of the whale,” because it is here where the journey may feel overwhelming or all too consuming. This is still ok—all part of the process.

When we are on our path, we do the work, and stay the course the “magical helpers” will begin to appear. Doors begin to open where only obstacles stood before, according to Campbell.

I am committed to WA because of the magical helpers. I love to hear when someone has a major breakthrough of success, because I know that I can do that to. And then hope to inspire others.

I share the heartbreak of some of the setbacks or health problems or other obstacles that cause delay for others—but it is just that, a delay. Stay the course, even if you have to sit on the bench for a while.

When I’m stuck, as I was this week trying to get my first affiliate link to work, I searched for the topic and like magic, video help topics appear. My affiliate vendor worked differently than the video, but it still provided me with the necessary clues to figure it out.

Many WA members before have already solved these problems and have provided the information for the sharing. The cool part is that are so willing to help. I look forward to the day when I too know enough to mentor others.

The advice from people who have started the journey and now experiencing success is invaluable. Thank you for sharing the light!

I wish you all a fabulous weekend, and a happy Labor Day to my American friends.

Let the journey continue.

Nice story my dear Anne.

Yes, Anne, I totally agree with your story, I am still lost in the woods, but my magical friends keep helping me when I hit a problem. Thank you for posting this, I never thought of myself as the hero of my own story before, very exhilarating:-))Steph

Hi Steph, yes we are heros, or heroines, when we strike out on the path to our authentic selves. By this I mean finding a niche and working it that has meaning to us and will benefit others.

Sorry Anne, you are right, heroine, I grew up with only brothers, no sisters, always a tomboy, even at my age, I suppose:-))Steph

Thank you for taking the time to read it, and your thoughtful comment.

Great post and we are the heroes

I agree, thank you for your comment.

If I understand the metaphor, we are the heroes of our journeys. What could be better than that? Heroes always triumph! Stay the course, Anne. :)

Thank you, we are all heroes, unless of course we quit. Then that's another story line. I appreciate your read.

Onward and upward :)

Thanks Jude!

Great post!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Much appreciated.

A great story to share Anne, and one I also find familiar.

Thank you Tommy, I appreciate your time and input. Yes, this is familiar to all who have chosen a different way to be in the world.

If being different means living the life you choose and freedom to enjoy your family and friends, then I'm glad to be different.
