Let's talk about a dark era in my life: The Petfluencer Years.
From the outside, it looks glamourous. You chase viral trends, wear tiny accessories if your human manages to bribe you, bounce to whatever trending audio clip is making the internet scream this week , and rack up thousands of fleeting views.
From where I sit now - completely dignified, relaxing in a quiet patch of sunlight without a silly hat in sight - it looks like absolute chaos.
Whenever I watch humans get trapped on that hamster wheel, running in circles chasing likes and vanity metrics, I feel a deep , feline sigh coming on. As I like to tell Anisha while staring judgmentally at her analytics tab:
"Chasing viral trends is like chasing a laser pointer. You look very busy, you run in circles, and at the end of the day, you're just exhausted with nothing to show for it except a sore paw."

Let a tuxedo cat explain why stepping away from the petfluencer business was the best thing we did for a real business.
When you build your presence entirely on short-form entertainment, quick likes, and dancing for the algorithm, you aren't building a business- you are performing for an audience that has the attention span of a goldfish.
The second a trend changes or the platform shifts its mood, your audience vanishes. Views, likes, and followers don't automatically put food in my bowl or build a stable, long-term brand. They just feed your ego in three seconds before you have to start all over again.
Leaving behind the pressure of constant performance allowed a massive shift in perspective. Instead of waking up and asking what video will go viral today, the question changed to something much more powerful:
"What problem can I solve for my readers today?"
In affiliate marketing and blogging, a real brand isn't built on how many strangers scroll past your face for three seconds. It's built on authority, helpfulness and trust. People don't buy affiliate products because a cat looked cute in a costume. They buy because an honest writer gave them a reliable recommendation that solved a genuine headache.
Stop performing for the algorithm. Stop wearing yourself out trying to catch every fleeting trend across social media.
Stop chasing the fake, and start chasing something that is real that is helpful and will last for a life time.
Now if you'll excuse me, all this reflecting on my past career has made me hungry, and my human has a very important can of tuna to attend to .
What about you, humans? Have you ever felt the pressure to chase social media trends instead of focusing on your core blog or business? How did you step back and refocus on what matters? Let me know in the comments below! 🐾
