How To Make Your Content Your Own Through Storytelling

One of the biggest concerns creators have today is: "How do I make my content feel like mine?"

It's a fair question. With so much information online and AI making content creation faster than ever, it's easy to feel like everyone is saying the same thing. But here's what I learned:

Your originality doesn't come from inventing brand-new ideas. It comes from the way you tell them.

That is where storytelling makes all the difference.

Start With the Idea, Not the Draft.

Whether your inspiration comes from a conversation, a book, a marketing lesson , or even AI, don't stop at the first draft.

Instead, ask yourself:

• What do I think about this?
• Why does this matter to me?
• What made this idea stick with me?
  

Your answers are what make your content yours.

Add your Perspective.

Two people can write about the exact same marketing concept and produce completely different articles. Why?

Because they bring different experiences, interests, and viewpoints.

For example, I often explain marketing concepts through fictional characters and television shows because that's how my brain connects with ideas.

Someone else might use sports, travel, and business case studies.

Neither approach is more correct. They're simply different perspectives.

Your perspective is something no one else can copy.

Use Stories instead of Statements.

Instead of writing: "Storytelling builds trust."
Ask yourself: Can I just show that instead of saying it?"

Perhaps you learned that lesson from a conversation with a reader.

Maybe a fictional character helped you understand audience loyalty.

Perhaps a campaign changed your opinion about branding.

Stories make the ideas easier to remember because they give the reader context.

Connect Your Interests to your Expertise.

One of the easiest ways to make content is to combine two things that you genuinely enjoy.

For me, that is marketing and storytelling.

For someone else, it could be photography and business.

Or fitness and psychology.

Or gaming and leadership.

Those combinations create content that feels authentic because they're based on real events, not trends.

Don't Chase Someone Else's Voice.

It's easy to admire creators whos writing you enjoy.

But if your content sounds like everyone else's, readers have no reason to remember it.

Your voice isn't just the words you choose.

It's your humour.

Your observations.

Your opinions.

The examples you naturally reach for.

The questions you ask.

Overtime, those small details become your signature.

Let AI be the Assistant, Not the Author.

AI is a fantastic brainstorming tool.

It can help you organise ideas, improve structure, and overcome writers block.

But don't let it have the final word.

Read through the draft and ask:

• Does this sound like something I would say?
• Have I added my own experience?
• Does this reflect my perspective?
• Would someone who knows my content recognise it as mine?

If the answer is no, keep editing.

The goal isn't to hide that AI helped.

The goal is to make sure your personality is impossible to miss.
