April 2016 Update: Blunders

Published on Wealthy Affiliate — a platform for building real online businesses with modern training and AI.

It feels like a long time since my last update. As I've written up some to-dos for the month, here I am with new updates.

As for the goals I wrote last month:

  • Update my Wealthy Affiliate Review
  • Building relationship with online marketing leaders (going well)
  • Rank on Google's top 5: in progress...

A quick recap

This month has been so hectic with both life and work (on my own online business as well as my current job) but I'm glad I pulled through at the end of the day.

As I continue to work on my site, I realize I've made a terrible mistake:

I didn't follow WA's training.

In fact, I even "boast" about it on my blog:

For every starters out there, be sure to follow the training!

Why?

Because Kyle's lessons are optimized for the reason why you are here: make money online.

I was veering off road thinking if I make viral posts, it'd be more profitable but the truth is, I wasn't doing enough keyword research and while my popular post did get attention from industry leaders, I couldn't rank for the term I was aiming for because it was too competitive and my new blog was no match for established brands like Buffer or Jeff Goins's blog.

When seeing WA folks like Edy making up to 4 figures in 10 months as a result of steadily following the training, it's clear I was going the wrong direction.

Honestly, I've noticed these staggering results since last month (I wasn't anywhere near earning a stable income or gaining decent traffic to Bloggingthing) but was too embarrassed to mention it.

Keep moving forward

The good news is I managed to pick myself up from there and start to focus on SEO and learning from WA again.

Since Bloggingthing was gaining good reputations, it's actually a little easier for me to rank compared to when I started.

Instead of taking a whooping 1 month to write epic posts (that doesn't manage to reach my target audience) like I used to, I tried to write a little bit faster. And managed to publish up to 3 posts in a short month including

which are very good results for me. In the process of writing these posts, I was able to meet and talk with many WA friends and bloggers who ended up promoting Bloggingthing and I couldn't thank them enough for their kindness.

I haven't been able to be on top 5 of Google as planned last month but did almost made it to page 1.

It's understandable though considering I'm still new to SEO.

Well, it can take more time than anticipated but I'm willing to do anything it takes to succeed!

What's next?

Last month I was fuzzy with my plans, so this time, I'm gonna be more precise and focused.

For May, I will:

  • Rank on top 5 of Google for one keyword.
  • Continue to experiment with SEO and keyword research.

Of course, in the mean time I'll continued to develop relationships within WA and with other bloggers.

Alright!

I'll leave you with a quote from Momentum.
