You know what hurts?.When you get ran over at work!

I was talking to my neighbor and good friend this morning while our kids are waiting for their school bus to arrive. We haven't seen each other for a few days now so upon seeing me, he blurted out "Where have you been?". That was the opening line of our conversation.

Kidding, I replied "Been hiding in my cave!" and he gave me a good laugh.

The truth is, I've actually been very busy planning out my next projects. Stuff that I have been learning over the past 8 months since I decided that I will now focus on my online ventures. WA is among the top of my list. I've not done any blogs yet about me stumbling upon WA a couple of months ago because I am reserving that for another blog post - so watch out for it!

Well, as a courtesy, I have to ask my friend back how he's doing. He gave me a smirk. I knew he was about to say "not so good". And he sure did.

He told me he was leaving his job soon because if not, he will soon be fired.

Whoa! Wait. What??

I still clearly remember about a month ago, he was very excited because he will be promoted to become the new Executive Chef of the restaurant he was working at after only working there for almost a month.

Turns out, the owners decided to hire a new Executive Chef instead of promoting him. Ouch!!!

This guy cooks really good, not because he is a friend but the man really knows his stuff. I knew that because he has invited us for a family dinner before.

Talking to him more, I kinda deduced that he was kicked in the rear because of politics and personal preferences. The guy really is not a good politician by any stretch - only good personality, dedication and excellent chef skills.

This is where being at the corporate environment really hurts. Your effort and dedication is not necessarily well reciprocated and appreciated. Of course, there are really good places to work but I don't think it is generally easy to find.

On the same token, this short discussion highlights the importance of having your own business or at a bare minimum, having other source(s) of residual income. For when things go bad, you have some cushion to absorb the financial impact.

Now this takes me to a very good topic for my next blog - "Office/corporate job versus being on your own". A topic I am very familiar with since I decided to run my own businesses in 2005.
