How to reduce stress and find some peace: Is it possible?

Are you coming home from work exhausted, full of stress? Chances are your day did not go as planned. You felt frazzled, trapped and probably overwhelmed. Did you want to curl up and cry or scream out at the top of your lungs? Maybe that's just me, but I have a feeling I'm not alone.

According to AIS, the American Institute for stress, job stress is far and away the major source of stress for adults and that it has escalated progressively over the past few decades. The fact is there is high demand on productivity, very little control, job insecurity and with workplace violence on the rise (I've seen and reported this first hand within the school setting), stress is inevitable.

There is so much information out there as to how to ease stress that it alone can be overwhelming. From meditation to running or just having a mindful moment or a big glass of wine, sometimes it's hard to find the right solution to a stress filled work day. I do not have all the answers but I wrote this blog in search of them. I want to know, from your personal experiences, what worked for you in those stress filled moments in hopes that it can be shared to help others that are feeling the same way.

From personal experience, just having time to talk to trusted friends can make all the difference. The other day at school, I felt like I just wanted to stop and cry out loud. My well planned lesson plans were a flop, some of the students were being disrespectful to each other over recess play (how can play be a negative thing???), other colleagues were in a bad mood and to top it off assessments and report cards are due!!! I felt like I had no control over any of it and I wanted to just restart the whole day. I made it home and instead of the normal routine of unpacking my school bag, making supper and house work, I dropped everything and took the dogs for a nice long walk. Let me tell you, it seemed to do the trick. Those trusted friends I mentioned earlier, those were my dogs. I just walked, talked and released all my negativity and they were great listeners :) They just shook their stubby little tails as if to say "tomorrow's a new day but for now let it all go and enjoy the moment!"

As I have stated before, I seldom have bouts of stress, anymore!

When I do want to calm myself down, I find the cat and just watch him while having a cigarette. (yes, I am the last person who smokes in America!)

Lol. I have a few friends who do the same!

I probably know them!

Hi Andrea, I have to cut out stress completely as it drives my Parkinson's crazy. Irv.

How do you cut it out,? What helps you? I'm always interested in the information given by others. I hope you have a peace-filled day.

So, a dog is definitely a woman's best friend too! :-) I agree that just getting outside in the fresh air helps me. I am a water person so if I can get near or on the water it has an amazing calming effect on me.

Yes. I love going to our cottage, by the water. So peaceful.
