Is buying your own domain name worth it?

You might have this question: you get 2 free websites here with a Free account and as many as you want with a Premium account, why would you want to spend something extra on buying a domain name?

You can work happily with http://blahblahblah.siterubix.com - this is something like how your website address will look like.

Let me tell you my experience:

As I wrote it 2 days ago, I just did it, bought a domain name from NameCheap and transferred it to my existing SiteRubix website that I had created here.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/andreagerak/blog/h...

Immediate results?

1. blahblahblah.com sounds wayyy better than blahblahblah.siterubix.com, in my case it is http://liveandtravelyourlife.com versus http://liveandtravelyourlife.siterubix.com - no question which one anybody can remember easier! It makes it much easier for me too to talk about it.

2. I already noticed a big difference in Google Search: already now, after 2 days, my site is #3 on Google (if I use quotation marks with the words in the name of my website, as search terms), with my Facebook Page with the same name taking #1 and #2 and on the first page, and the next 4 hits are Pages or Tag Pages from my site, then there is one more, my Pinterest for this website.

Eight hits out of the very first 10 are mine, mine, mine :-D

And if I use another keyword combination, a couple of times my site would come up on page 2 or 3.

The difference?

Before, I could hardly find my SiteRubix site after page 10! No matter how often I posted on it or promoted it on my social networks - as a matter of fact, I have shared it here too quite a few times.

And now I hardly did any work on my site with the new name, did not even post.

Conclusion?

Definitely! It is worth to invest that approximately 10 bucks for a domain name for a year. (And mind you, ten bucks in US will only buy you 2 Big Macs at McDonald's, but where I am now, it is almost the double.)

PS: I still haven't done a lot of training on all the SEO etc, tricks, my site is pretty much in a basic condition in that regard, but thanks WA for this little knowledge that I have!

People just take you more seriously as a business if you have your own shop front. Besides, domains don't cost that much, I purchased one just last night for $7.

Hi Jason, I hope the back is better.

Afraid not, it's in pieces today :(

Dam you must have really done a job on it.

Yep, you're right.

I agree

It makes sense to me subdomains don't get hit as quickly... they are long, they often are unrelated to the larger site, It's kind of like their filing cabinent had to get more complicated to find the needed files.
