Remember the bigger picture

It's no secret that most of us are here to make money. Whether we want a few hundred bucks to supplement our Starbucks habit, or a few hundred thousand to change our lives, let's not forget the real reason.

Lifestyle. And I don't mean cars and boats. I mean time with family. Making your own decisions. Creating a safe and secure environment for yourself and those you love.

My main goals for building my business are to reduce my time spent chasing someone else's dream. I don't want to be part of the 9-5 anymore. And I want to teach my kids to have control of their futures.

This morning, a high school girl in our neighborhood (about 5 houses up) overdosed. As I took my kids to the bus, we saw fire trucks, police cars, and an ambulance. This is the second child in my neighborhood to do this. And I live in an upper middle class neighborhood in the suburbs.

This is the reality of life today. Kids are overwhelmed. Expectations and peer pressure are constant because of things like social media. Role models are becoming fewer and farther between. It really is a current crisis.

Today I'm reminded to hold my babies tight. Teach them what it means to be an independent thinker. Talk to them. Ask them questions. Hang out. Just BE there. Presence in our children's lives is more important than anything. And it's my reason for building something great.
