Discipline

I'm sure many of us use and are familiar with the two definitions of the word "Discipline" in the English Language.

1) It can mean to "rebuke or correct".

For example: "I need to discipline my child for breaking the rules. (I use this definition a lot with a 3 year old at home!)

2) Or it can mean, "to train oneself to do something in a controlled and habitual way."

Example: "I discipline myself to exercise every day." ( Not a reference to myself here. I get enough exercise just trying to dress, feed, bathe, and keep alive 2 toddlers!)

But, I've been learning quite a bit recently about both of these definitions. My patience has never been quite so tested as it has been with correcting and training a 3 year old! Disciplining a child is hard work,...but I've almost found that the act of disciplining myself is even harder!

Training myself to create good habits in replace of bad ones is not easy. I'll eat healthy for a few days then revert back to stuffing my face with chocolate...or pie. Or I'll do yoga for a week, then take a break....for weeks...maybe months (unless changing the diaper of one toddler, with another toddler on your back and dog across your feet counts...in which case, I'm a yoga master!). I'll try SO hard to get up earlier then my kids and do really good for a few days...and then break my alarm clock by hitting snooze a little too hard.

Discipline is not easy...but it is necessary for success. Every successful person I've ever met has perfected the art of discipline in their life because they know that it produces a great harvest in the end. Reading blog posts from some of the top people here has really opened my eyes. It's so easy to become complacent, to procrastinate, and make excuses (I might be a bit too good at that.), especially in today's culture! But discipline is the key to making dreams become reality.

My dream is to be successful here at WA. To create a comfortable life for my little family. But that's not going to happen by hitting snooze, or making excuses ( or binge-watching Netflix to unwind after the kids are finally in bed) It's going to take discipline.

So here's to the start of a brand new journey. I'm looking forward to the abundant harvest that will be reaped from staying focused and disciplined here at WA. :)

Thank you so much! :)

good post enjoyable

Hi Amber, I enjoyed reading your post. Irv.

Great post, I relate to a 3 year old I keep one a few days several times a month, with my age and bad back it takes all the energy I have. With home life and WA and keeping up with both takes discipline I really need to work on that myself and put more time with WA.

A great topic Amber and timely. If you read through a number of posts today you'll see that a firestorm of comments was ignited about rules violations!
