Kids and Animals and Other Cute Distractions

Here lately I don't leave the house as often as I used to. Most of what I do is just sitting on my couch whether I'm working on the computer or creating another one of my creations. I turn off the TV and I set my mind to the task before me when suddenly...

I don't have children at home, my baby is 25 and lives in another state that she found she loved while in the military. I do however have 5 cats 2 dogs and a ferret. The dogs are cute and only a cute little distraction if I need to be in the area they're kept in the house so that they don't do stuff like eat my living room table or my mattress, this has happened recently when they got out, and before you ask, no they are not young pups. The 115 pounder is a bouncy 4-year old boxer pit mix with lots of energy. My smaller one is a 7-year old wiry brown brindle pit. All of my fur babies are rescues.

Two of my kitties have a problem with the youngest one, who you will see above if the video loads, if not you will see my only female, so they stay outside. If it gets too cold out I snatch them up and bring them in anyway, but for the most part they have access to my heated laundry room. My ferret is almost 9 years old, and she's lost partial use of her hind legs, so she spends most of her time in her cage cuddled up. The other 3 however seem to know when I'm the busiest. It is at this time that they want the most attention. https://photos.app.goo.gl/bykzcpHwuhSoRnow6

Some things I do online I cannot take time out to stop. I'm timed on my work and it must be right and on time every time, but if I am at a stopping point or can manage it I cuddle and scritch and curry. I know it can get frustrating, especially when I am on a deadline, but then I remember, animals, just like children, are only underfoot for a short time.

I have to remind myself that that extra cuddle or scritch makes me happy too, and can really recharge my batteries. Staring at my little one after a long day of work, or taking that extra few minutes to play her favorite alphabet game were time well spent. Listening to her garbled stories, or listening to my fur babies cooing and articulating points in a language I will never quite understand is time I will cherish even if I never do get it back. even if I miss a deadline. As my own boss I can afford such things, maybe not every time but sometimes.

I say all this to say, we can all be nicer to ourselves and remember to enjoy the lives we are building, even if we're not there yet. I have a friend who likes to say treat yourself as if you have already made it, already accomplished, already received and let the Universe catch up.
