What plugin should I be using to block spam?
Akismet is what I personally use and although it is not perfect and has periods in which "spammers" figure out the holes, they are pretty quick to patch them out.
At the end of the day, no spam detection plugin will be perfect, but they are definitely much better than leaving your comments wide open to spam (which can be a real headache having to sift through those).
I use Antispam bee I found this so much better that Akismet but that is a personal choice. You can get it by going to plugins, add new and type anti spam bee. install and activate. then you just go through to set up the way you want it.
