I have a domain name; but, I want to create seperate websites with it. How can I do this besides creating subdomains?

I don't think you can do that. You would have to create subdomains to have separate sites and still use the original domain name. If MySite.com is your domain name then SeparateSite.MySite.com would be a subdomain.

I tried to start my second website last week. It gave me a sub domain name after my domain, I liked it and it looked good. I got as far as choosing my theme, then this message popped up.
(Installing another website here will overwrite your current installation. Do you still want to continue with the website installation?)
I did not go any further. I was terrified of loosing all the work I have already done. I am still ready to start my second site.

it sounds like you were trying to install the sub domain in the root of your website. That is why it was going to override your original site. A subdomain needs to go in it's own directory. When you create the subdomain leave the directory blank. It will create it's own directory. If you type in your original domain in that space then it will override your original work.

It's a bit more complicated, you should get access to your Cpanel to do that or by FTP by using "Filezilla", there you would manually install wordpress , It's more complicated because you would have to create a new database for the domain and match it with a new user for that domain or use the same database of the existed domain.

The simplest way is to use the add-on domain from your Cpanel, this will automatically create the folder and install WordPress in it . I don't know if in WA we can do it that way. It would be much easier to create another site by using the " Create a new Website" Button in "website & Hosting" here at WA.

I already got my domain and server before coming to WA, so i can't help you much. I wish this help you a bit. If you need more information feel free to send me a private message.

Cheers

Thank you for your help.

When you do this and create another website within your own website, what is the URL ?

You should already have a domain first to be able to do that, When you configure your Wordpress it should point to that URL, with the host name.

Yes you can, in your public_html create a folder and name it just like your domain then install your cms "worpress-joomla etc..". And it's done.

http://game-tweak.com/

Cheers

Can you explain this in more detail? I would like to learn this as well.
How would someone access the folder with a url? Also how do you create a website inside this folder?

Thank you for your help. This is what I was talking about. So, you just create a new folder inside your public_html folder inside your domain and call it whatever...and then your website would be domain/whatever.com? That is my understanding so far. Then you can install wordpress directly into that specific folder? The benefits of doing it this way as opposed to creating a subdomain is that all of your rankings and pages, links, etc...will still be linked to this new "domain" and you will get credit with Google for all of your other stuff even though it's not directly connected. I wasn't able to ask all of these questions during the webinar I attended; but, he briefly touched on all of this.

The reason I ask is because last week I sat through an online web presentation where you could ask questions and one of the things he said was to create folders inside the main website; but, I am unfamiliar with anything like that.

Sub-domain or get a new domain name that is slightly different but related for the other site.

Thank you for your help

You can create a sub-domain. For example your website.com and subwebsite.website.com

Thank you for your help. I thought there was some way to do it by creating a new folder inside the original domain name.

Sorry, didn't read you message carefully. Sub domain is the only way.

OK Thank you so much

I am far from expert, but to my knowledge you have to obtain a domain name for each website you want.

Actually, you can create a whole new domain...basically, by creating a subdomain from your original domain name.

Hi Alicia,
I stand to be corrected, but I don't think it's possible, I can't see how it could be. I think subdomains are you only option. Sorry I can't be more positive.
All the best,
Brandon

Thank you for your help Brandon.

I just finished creating one of my "themed" pages and I wanted to see if I can get some feedback on it. Will you check it out and let me know what you think? Also, be aware that

Hi there,
I think you did a pretty good job explaining SEO in this article.
If you need ideas to lengthen that article (for your own SEO purposes) I would elaborate on the 5 points. Just a short paragraph or 2 for each point, nothing too crazy.
And if you can use images to demonstrate any of those points, even better.
You have a great foundation in place for your site overall. Well done :)

Thank you so much for the feedback. I am going to make the post longer. Thank you for the advice. I truly appreciate it. :)

Would you be willing to check out my site once more now that I've made some changes? Thank you in advance for your help. :)

Much more thorough and looking much better. Now.....lol
It would be in your best interest to place your images to the right (again for your own SEO purposes).
I would also break up the large blocks of content. Three sentences per paragraph tops.
Finally, break up each sub-topic (your 5 points) by creating a headline using an h3 tag.
Sorry to hit you with all this stuff, but it's better than having to do this with 30 pages. I know because i had to! :)

No...I appreciate all of your help because I'm new to all of this. I would much rather learn how to do it correctly now than later. :)

Good. You will be an excellent student:)

Love the design. The type is VERY small, especially for old eyes like mine. ;) I assume you took the pop up off as I didn't see it, even without my ad blocker turned on. I agree with others on that one. When those things start, I "X" out of there in a hurry!

Thank You for your kind words. I didn't realize the type was small. I will check and see what size the font is and adjust it. I appreciate your feedback. :)

I agree with VitallyG, that pop up is annoying and I have a tendency to leave sites that they keep coming up. Which means you will drive away your traffic.

Thank You. I'll take it off. The auto responder is new to me and I've been playing around with it; but, the pop ups annoy me as well so I will be taking it off.

The site is off to a great start Alicia! Here's a few things I noticed:

1. Remove the pop up form that asks people to sign up. Generally people don't like this when they come to your site looking for their content. It acts as a wall that gets in the way of what they're looking for.

2. I noticed your menu up top appears twice. The one on the top right of the screen should go.

3. The content is looking great. I would recommend at least 1,000 words per post. This is a personal rule I follow which I see gets more stable results.

Thank you Vitaliy. I appreciate your feedback and look forward to working towards a great website. I'll be seeking your opinion as I go. Thank you so much!!!

Happy to help :)

Hi Alicia, Joel here. I like your site because it is clean and simple, concise and cohesive. I like that you have that list builder in place, I'm going to sign up. :) It's great because it is up and running and you made it. I'm still just studying and thinking what to build myself so I don't think I'll critique anything yet. Great job, keep up the
good work. :)
Joel

Thank you so much Joel!!! I appreciate it.

I like it!! I am aware you are still building, but it needs something to make it pop. Maybe a different background color or a pic at the top. I just find something like that to really make a website. I don't know how your theme works though. Other then that I think it looks great keep it up. n_n

I think so too; but, I'm not sure what kind of picture. Thank you for checking it out. I appreciate it. :)

I created several pages; but, am I supposed to just write an article on the page and then enter down a few lines and begin another article and so on....except for the front page

If you write one article, put it in the correct category before you publish it and then publish, it becomes its own entity. Then you start another one and do the same thing. They go into their respective categories when you check them off on the sidebar. Not sure if this is what you're asking or not. Good Luck!

Thank you very much. This does help.

In one of the recent tutorials in the affiliate bootcamp we were supposed to add 3 new pages and write 10 articles on each page. This is my problem....For example...I have a page called Build a Website....how am I going to get 10 articles/posts on that page unless I just basically enter several times to start a new one? Does that make sense? My posts are going to go to my first page only correct?

Hi Alicia... You could possible write 10 articles on the different aspects of building a website? Purhaps how to add pictures to sites, or maybe an article regarding plug-ins, another can be about layouts, or the different kind of themes? Write as many ideas down as you can and then keep writing some more, you will find after a little while you you will stretch the idea muscle and other ideas will come up :)

Yes, if you home page is set then your posts will all show on that page :) It is set that way by default so it should all work out fine.

There is a misunderstanding. The lesson doesn't talk about that. You write your pages up and leave them alone after they are done.

After that, you will make posts on a regular basis. In the future when you have a lot of posts, you can organize them into a menu. For example:

If on my make money online site, I have 3 menus:

Get started, good products, bad products

Those can be pages. Then I can write posts which I would then be able to link to the above places. For example:

If I reviewed 10 programs that teach people how to make money online and they all sucked, I could add them to the bad products category as a drop down menu.

For example, look at Kyle's site:

http://waystoavoidscamsonline.com/

Notice he has drop down arrows on certain categories like "Scams". This is what your site will eventually do.

For now focus on content creation. Then as it grows, you will be able to organize it into a structure that's easy for people to navigate through when they land on your site.

Hope this helps!

Ok. That makes more sense. I'm really good at making things way more complicated than they have to be. He was talking about Theme pages and I thought we needed to write 10 articles on each of the theme pages and it wasn't computing. Thank you for your help

Anytime :)

Thank you for your help.

Hi Alicia hope all going well. I found a link that might help you with the pages vs post this is a training by Jay done in May dealing with WordPress issues pages and posts are covered in this. Thought it might help you further with this.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/creating-and-managing-your-content
Take care be well we are all by you side.
Andre

Thank you Andre. I'm going to watch it now.

You are welcome enjoy and have a wonderful day Alicia.
Andre

Hi Alicia let me give you an example the link below is Kyle's website we normally see this a lot in our training session .

http://waystoavoidscamsonline.com/

When you go to his site you will see at the top row which is the Menu Get started,The Good,The Scams, Keyword Research and About Me.

This is the menu which the pages are listed.
Depending on themes many people will have posts listed on the sidebar other will be as a static page (meaning it changes) this in Kyles case in on the front page because of the styles of themes he is using.
Now most posts can show to a max of 10 post at any one time less if you choose. At the Moment Kyle has 30 posts but you can only see 10 if you scroll down to the bottom you will see the previous entries and next entries if you click next entries the next 10 posts will appear on the front screen and so on. The other are just in the background until you click either next or previous button.

That is the difference between post and pages as per the screen and website setup.
The other half of the question is also that as far as content is concerned there is no real difference. if is just the placement of where you have it.
As stated the pages are normally the first ones you create when starting a website like your about me page and the private policy page.
hope this clears it up a bit sorry if its long but I wanted you to see an example with an explanation that goes with it;
Let me know if you are not sure about any part I don't mind helping out where I can.
Take care be well
Andre
Let me know either way you understand or not i am here to help you out as well.

This is my problem....For example...I have a page called Build a Website....how am I going to get 10 articles/posts on that page unless I just basically enter several times to start a new one? Does that make sense? My posts are going to go to my first page only correct?

It is 3 concepts. This is basically part of the research process. You take so a broader concept like "affiliate marketing" and then you drill down and come up with 10 relevant keywords (which could then be pages and posts).

Hope this adds some clarity here.

Which tutorial is it that you talk about theme pages and then you show us how to create a dropdown menu and links? That's the one I'm talking about and I've gone and looked for it but I can't seem to find the right one. I was confused because I thought we were supposed to write 10 articles on each theme page and I couldn't seem to clarify how I was supposed to do that.

Here is how my site looks like right now if this helps.
http://brightoncomputerandretailstore.com/

Great site.

Thank you, still working on my product page and my review posts...but its getting there.

Pages and posts are the same thing. They are all just another word for articles. Posts should be things you put on your site whenever you are targeting a keyword and aiming to add more content. Pages should generally be things like your about me page, privacy policy and other things.

Pages and posts rank the same way on Google. The only difference is that posts show up on your home page and show google you are adding content frequently which adds to your SEO benefits.

This is what I recommend:

Say you found a low competition keyword. go to your dashboard --> Posts --> Add new and write your article there.

Make sure the keyword is in the title and first paragraph then write freely.

Repeat the same procedure each time you find a new keyword or have a new topic to write about.

Each time you publish a post, it is essentially a new article that's added to the content of your site. Your content increases in size and overtime this increases your authority in Google and you get traffic :)

Thank you Vitaliy...I still have a question which I posted just about 5 minutes ago. Maybe you could help my to better understand.

Posts are like your blog/article. You should have a lot of those, but you need pages to. Pages will be what you audience will first look at and how they will navigate your site and need to be their. You don't need a lot, but something to help with your niche. you can have pages with certain posts it that's what you mean. You can also have pages that have links to your post. I hope that answered your question. If you want me to clarify anything I can. n_n

Thank you for your help. How can you have pages with certain posts if all posts go to one page?

When you create new content, you start by adding either a blank new post or a blank new page. You do this by selecting the option from your left menu by clicking on either Post or Page.

So you make the decision before you write your content.

A post is your blogroll - a continuous list. By default WP sets your blogroll as the home or landing page when a visitor first arrives at your website.

These trainings should help:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/the-differences-between-posts-pages

Also, if you go to this post by member Max (howmuch), and scroll down to the last section, she explains the difference between posts and pages.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/howmuch/blog/what-are-keywords-posts-and-pages-again

~Jude

Thank you for your help.

Pages should from my perception contain your main information for your site, like Home page, About page, Blog page, Product page, Privacy Policy...or any other main information you choose to create in that page. Posts are mainly to use for updating customers, reviews, special interests or introducing a new product coming out...etc....the pages will appear up above in your main tool bar...well mines at the top for my theme, then post will usually appear off to the side and you can set these to archive after 10 posts or how ever many you set in your settings. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help.

My pleasure!

Also, if you go to this post by member Max (howmuch), and scroll down to the last section, she explains the difference between posts and pages.

I just changed the theme of my website and updated a few other things; but, it keeps showing my old theme. I even deleted the themes from my main files on my host. I use Google

Hi AliciaAngel. Try this:

I see you got your answer all the best

Thank you.

Probably would be a good idea! I haven't had this issue and I've changed my theme six times already!

Are you serious??? Oh, no...I have no idea what to do. Well, with all of the help I get here I should be able to figure it out soon. I'm so hoping anyway. :)

Just go to "History", and click on "Clear browsing data", and go through the checklist and ensure "Cached images and Files" is checked! If you don't want to clear any other aspect of your history, just uncheck the other boxes!

Thank you. I figured it out though. I am using WP Fastest Cache plugin to enable my visitors to have a faster experience. I had to go in and delete that cache and now it's working. Thank you for your help

Your welcome! :D
