First Ad; Is this a big deal?

Well, I got my first ad onto my website....and I think it is working. ha ha.
I had a couple of AdSense ads, but those never worked because I was never approved. I know my traffic is too low right now... but that is a work in progress. I am just glad my ad is there and seems to be working.

The site looks good overall. Not sure about the purpose of the background image of vegetables, which in my Firefox browser is resting behind the first post - is that part of the theme - I'm wondering if it is supposed to be the header image?
I see an Amazon ad in the top right sidebar. It's fine. Is that the ad you are referring to? Nice site - great info. ~Jude
