Turn That TV Off!

I haven't been here for a few days and I've suffered for it. Guess whose fault it was? Mine. This weekend, I said to myself, "I need to finish 3 articles before Monday." How many did I finish? None.

I fell into a trap I created for myself. "Oh, I'll just turn the TV on and look at my iPad for a few minutes". I ended up buying a game on my device, played it with the television in the background for the whole weekend.

Scratch that, I did decide it was time to clean my master bedroom, which I accomplished, but no attention was given to my website. Unfortunately my site health went down, I lost some ranking on WA and nothing was indexed. If I write a couple of articles, I usually get indexed from my older articles within a few days.

I said it in one of my other blog posts and I'll say it again "When you do nothing, nothing happens. When you do something, something happens." There is a silver lining though. It's not much but my site trust is at 20%. It's been at 10% since June and I wondered if it would ever go up. This means that Google is starting to relent a bit and may give my articles more credit.

I remember when I first wrote articles, I'll get indexed but couldn't find my website when I typed in the article I was looking for. They are starting to appear now, so I must be doing something right. But I have to keep doing it.

When I came home today, I went straight into the office, no TV, no iPad, and the discipline to not turn on YouTube while on the computer before I finish writing my article.

If you're anything like me, your TV, cell phones and any device you own that can show Netflix or Hulu, you should stay away from until you complete your tasks for the day.

I have to force myself to turn off those devices until I do what I need to do. If you fall off, that's okay, the work isn't going anywhere, just get it done. You'll thank yourself later.

Great choice! We have enough distractions with our thoughts wandering... TV and cellphones make it worse... Keeping them off AND out of reach is the best option.

We are Blessed.

I believe that TV and related electronics are addictive and it takes willpower to put them away. Good job to those who resist those distractions.

What a great message. I am so guilty! As you say if I don't do anything nothing will happen. Thanks for the gentle push!!!

We live and learn. As long as we learn from our mistakes and make corrections it is a good thing.

I was about to turn on the TV just now, and decided to listen to music instead. Now I'm in the middle of finishing my article.

That sounds like a good compromise in my opinion. Maybe you even got inspired to make another article as well?

True, best to get your work done before turning that tv on. I save tv or movies for late in the evening.

Great point, thank you!
