How do YOU define Luck?

There are numerous definitions for this word which we so easily ascribe to achieving something which seemed impossible.

Some of the definitions I found are ;

"Success or failure apparently brought about by chance rather than through one's own actions"

Wiki describes it in length but the gist of it is "a purposeless, unpredictable and uncontrollable force that shapes events favourably or unfavourably for an individual, group or cause"

A well known and respected author and former contributing editor for Time magazine ( amongst others) Max Gunther described it as "events that influence one's life and are seemingly beyond one's control."

How often do we say that this or that person is just so lucky because (1) they won the lottery , (2) they got such a good job, (3) they have such a wonderful home ... and the list goes on and on .

It seems that "Luck" is one of those amazing words we use to describe the good things which happen to other people and we are continually lookingfor ways to change our Luck.

But what is it really?

The best definition of Luck I ever heard was from the mouth of one of the worlds greatest golfers Gary Player, a multi-grand slam winner and true champion of the sport. When asked by an interviewer how he got so lucky in winning so many tournaments or playing some really difficult shots, his reply was " The harder I practise, the luckier I get!"

I once used this same analogy when many years ago I was given the opportunity to teach art to elementary school children. One of the young girls one day asked me how I became so good at drawing . My reply to her was to develop the Triple P approach. When asked by this 12 year old what that was I told her it was "Practice, Practice, Practise." She later went on to become a top textile graphic designer.

So how do we adapt this to our everyday existence whether in the home , in our relationships or the workplace?

It is really very simple!

No matter what our goals are and regardless of how "unlucky" we may feel in not achieving the same status as the Smiths next door, or envying Mr Jones who was giving the position you were hoping for, we need to ask what they did to achieve their "luck".

It is all about setting a goal and figuring out just what we have to do to achieve that goal. Here at Wealthy Affiliates we have a tremendous opportunity to change our LUCK in a mighty and powerful way .

Yes it may mean long hours of study or hard work and practice but if we want to change our Luck status it is well worth the trouble.

Congratulations for your first WA blog Tony. The luck you speak of is just a short way to say hard work and determination. Thank you for sharing your insights. Very enjoyable read.

Hi Evan thanks so much for that . It was a trial blog with the hope that I would get some positive feedback on it. Yes as Gary Player said "Hard work equals Success"

All the best .
