That weekend was Amazing

I just spent the most amazing weekend with my wife!

I know this might sound strange but ever since my two-year old daughter was born it has basically been a relationship between wife and daughter and me playing the bystander. Don't get me wrong I love my wife and daughter very much but she is very jealous when me and my wife try and get close.

Anyway for the first time this weekend we let our little girl stay at her grandparents house for two whole days and let me say that was a very needed break. My wife and I was able to get some stuff actually done around the house. We then went to a festival where we ate good Pizza, Drank a non Alcoholic beverage and danced a little.

We haven't been able to do anything like that since my daughter was born as she is very demanding of my wifes attention and I can't get a look in edge-ways. I don't begrudge them of the great relationship they obviously have. It is very beautiful to watch my little girl and proud wife together...Brings tears to my eyes sometimes just thinking about it.

There was a moment though when I asked my wife if she missed our daughter during the evening and we both agreed that we didn't at that moment. So the relief was mutual.

But...now that we have experienced that giving the kid away thing for a day or two has no implication, I think I will have to make it a regular thing. Maybe not too regular but me and my wife have hardly had any alone time together for nearly 2 years now.

I love my wife very much but realized she was being dragged away from me by my own daughter (Nope won't be having any of that).

I have worked out though that (through this experience) when I take mini breaks away from them both e.g. going on short excursions or holidays alone, it helps me accept the situation the way it is. So I have also integrated that into my married life too. Every year me and my wife (with daughter) go our separate ways for approximately 10 days. Normally I travel far like South America or Asia, where as my wife will stay local or maybe she will desire a yoga retreat or something.

So yeah we picked up our daughter and once again them two where inseparable and me...well I went back to being a bystander. I like it though and it will only be till next weekend. And almost every weekend that I can loan her out for. I thank the grandparents for being so willing and understanding and although very short I felt this weekend went a long way towards repairing our relationship...MY DAUGHTER WILL KEEP HER FATHER….for now!

My husband felt the same way when our daughter was small, but it does change and now our daughter is 17 and we have a renewed relationship, but remember things change and evolve but as long as the love is there, you will survive and flourish!
Regards, Lisa

Thats how life goes with kids, but you just have to learn to take time for you and your wife to. we all have been there

Thanks for your comment. As a new father I didn't expect it would be so heavy on the relationship. I often asked why so many guys leave their wives and children and although I don't agree with it, I understand it. I have been with my wife a while now and we never had any problems till my daughter showed up. I still think she's awesome.

Hang with it and make special times for your wife.
