Loki - Mayhem and Mischief

In Norse mythology, Loki is known as the trickster god and deity of mayhem and mischief.

He was a shapeshifter and would level insults and create havoc wherever he went.

Avoiding the Influence of Chaos

Keeping our side of the street clean should help minimize the amount of mayhem and mischief in our own lives, but Loki did come to mind as it felt as though he reared his head yesterday afternoon. This was a dilemma completely out of left field, something unexpected and it threw me off schedule and scrambling for back up to cover another commitment I had to others in my community.

For a while, I almost felt picked upon, as it seemed he had been lurking a while in my own atmosphere.

Rather than dwell on my own recent dilemma, however, it made me think of everyone facing a lot of challenges today and upheavals.

While perhaps Loki's influence may still be around, it is equally possible is that chaos is sometimes the stuff that life is made of.

Acknowledging that it is frustrating at times to get thrown a curve ball out of left field, writing about it seems to help relieve the angst.

What if We Can't Do Anything Yet

Life on life terms is sometimes an internal struggle for acceptance of "that's just the way things are" at the moment; much of the time, the prudent thing to do is to ride the wave rather than attempt to swim against it. Today, having to do that, it forced me to rise above the frustration.

The important thing was to take necessary action despite the inconvenience and find a back-up solution, tabling wants for needs temporarily even though it can be frustrating.

The ability to delay gratification tending to that which we the least wish to do is actually a hallmark for success in the long run.

Blaming Is Never a Solution

Let's just play around with the thought that Loki is alive and well and playing games with mother nature recently. Frustrated with this sudden turn of events, Loki came to mind, I must admit.

Though I would love to blame it on him, if such a preposterous suggestion were true, what could I do about it? Well...first, I could shift my perspective.

It is said that Loki eventually got into trouble with the Gods and attempted to hide by disguising himself as a Salmon. They had experienced enough of his mischief. Once they captured him, they bound him in place until Ragnarok, with a venomous snake poised above him, inflicting substantial pain from the poisonous bites. A seriously scary consequence for anyone.

As we're still here on this planet, Ragnarok is still in the future; it stands to reason Loki may still be hanging around as well and pretty tormented. So what to do?

Meeting Challenges with a Perspective Shift

Confronting chaos in our lives can be a challenge; flexibility the key to inner peace in the midst of it and hopefully, things will smooth out for everyone in the midst of global chaos that we are now facing. When things seem overwhelming, I have heard the solution is to approach mounting problems as you would eat an elephant...one bite at a time.

Again, suspending reality, if Loki is the driving force behind some chaos in my own life or in the world in general, would exercising a bit of compassion toward his plight and the plight of others be in order?

After all, in Loki's plight, being tied to a rock and tormented by a snake until the end of Gods and men doesn't seem all that comfortable. Maybe he just isn't "feeling the love".

Likewise, remembering that the cog in the wheel in my own life might be minuscule in comparison to that of many might be helpful as a means to lose the frustration surrounding it.

Compassion as a Solution to Ease Frustration

Perhaps having compassion for the situation of others and praying that Loki gets some relief from his plight while waiting for Ragnarok is the solution here.

While I am being somewhat tongue-and-cheek, there is a serious need for peace and restoration in this world, and I am certain that many are feeling this.

Perhaps, no matter what we believe, shooting off a prayer or sending compassionate thoughts that other people near and far find peace and ease today is something that certainly could not hurt and would possibly be helpful.

Feeling compassion for others who are facing challenges helps me right myself, so I'll walk my talk and shoot off a blessing and a prayer that poor Loki and anyone else feeling pain today gets some relief. In doing so, I've found a little internal relief as well.

Where Does this Apply to WA Community?

No matter where you are in your process, if something happens to your internet, your theme isn't functioning the way you want it to, or some other technical issue arises, there is a way to restore order here on WA, and for that I am truly grateful.

If I am struggling, there is always the community on live chat, the classroom questions and site support to help. When you need that, please do not hesitate to use it. It can help you travel through that chaos a little more quickly and provides peace of mind that people understand and have been faced with those issues before. Solutions are offered everywhere.

It is never a sign of weakness to ask for help and a pleasure to give it, so do not hesitate. What I love about WA is that we can express ourselves and our journeys and support each other in the process.

Thank you

It helped to write this out...an upset applecart did not need to spoil the entire day and perhaps might help someone else.
