I realized something today -- if my site is going to be successful, I need to stop being shy about sharing it and asking for input from...well, anyone that will listen. My site has only been live for about a week but I feel like I've cranked out quite a bit of content given my personal schedule.

My approach was perhaps a bit aggressive and I could have benefited by going a little slower; however, I think it's all coming together. I burned through the lessons as fast as possible, making myself accomplish all of the tasks for each lesson before moving on.

I have the benefit of a decent background in computers so the concepts were not hard for me to pick up. This allowed me to play the video in one tab and accomplish the tasks on my website in another tab. I wouldn't recommend this approach for the complete novice but it worked for me and helped me get through the lessons fast.

Yesterday I began lesson 4, working on setting up the social media for my site. This has been tremendous for me. I don't have a ton of followers yet, but I received a very important message within a few hours of being live.

My site is all about supplements. I research them and their efficacy and I blog about them. When I started, I thought my target demographic would be meat heads like me who want to get huge and lean and prioritize their supplement budget. I still think this demographic is where I'll make my money but in the short term there might be a better way to drive my Google rankings.

My sister is pre-menopausal and posted to my Facebook page asking about natural ways to treat night sweats since there is a history of breast cancer in the family making hormone replacement therapy less than ideal. My task was to research this and write a post.

Now, keep in mind. I'm a guy in my mid-30s. I've never gone through menopause, nor has my wife. My mother went through it but I was not around for it living out of state a thousand miles away. I had to literally start from scratch.

The resultant article was not only a quality post for my site, but a great education for me as a husband. More specific to my website goals within WA, this whole experience was a lesson that gave me a different perspective on my approach.

I'm now a big believer in sharing your site with family and friends early and often. I only have 6 followers on my Facebook Page after one day but that one post was incredibly important to my business model. If I can help educate other demographics than the jocks and gym rats, that will drive traffic on my site, drive sales, and lead to more success.

I for one am glad you decided to share I think every woman should read it.

You are off to a great start. Keep adding content and doing research on keywords that will get you traffic for your niche.

Thanks, Brett. I'm finding this quite addictive. I'm really enjoying it which makes it that much better.

haha yea the more you do the more addictive it gets. Just wait until those first few commissions roll in!

I can't wait for that to start happening! I'm trying not to focus on that right now, though. I'm only a week into this adventure so it'll be a while before I can realistically expect to get a check. Right now I'm obsessing over getting my site trust up and maxing out the other aspects of site health....well, that in addition to writing quality content, of course. I truly believe that is going to be the key to long-term success.
