Dusting off the Old

So about my journey thus far..

A Great Work in Progress

This past week has been nothing but the same recurring thought in my head: "Have I really done this much ALREADY?!" I'm using social media and resources I haven't used in a WHILE; that I honestly didn't think i'd use much at all.

When I first started here, I was a bit on the fence. I wasn't concerned much about whether WA was legit or not, but rather what the heck my focus was gonna be. I both knew what I wanted to do..but then again I didn't.

I thought about what my art mentor and their colleagues said about pursuing a goal: Think of what you want to do. Then just do it anyway. You want to become a writer? Start to prepare that rough draft and get something published NOW. Doesn't need to be award-winning. Doesn't need to be perfect according to someone else's standards. For now, just get something off the ground. Create at least one finished thing and present it. Saying what you can do is beneficial, but showing what you've gotten done is even better.

I considered all that.

Then it clicked.

My site will be what I am. My site will be not only what I've BEEN doing, but it'll be what I've always wanted to do anyways.

So I made my site about character design. More specifically in relation to graphic novels, but the idea is visual storytelling, or telling stories through pictures. The framework around my site depended on the graphics themselves. Since my site is very visual, I needed to show the purpose of each page. While some people might add nothing but text at first, I basically had to do the opposite: set up pages and images, then add text later. The headers and pretty stuff where there to remind me what went where, so I got a sort of rhythm going. The routine helped me focus. I didn't plan for things to get elaborate, but they started to fall into place. I just went with it.

Nothing's perfect nor set in stone, but I've got a great foundation; all the while gaining an amazing education. I've been a PC user for a good 15 years or so and I feel like I've learned more about how the internet works from WA, so far, than any basic Photoshop and MS Word class ever taught me. Well...the USE of it.

What are my future goals with WA?

I would like to see some income by 3 months time with my site, but that's not my real goal. I REALLY just want my website to survive for 6 months! =) It's already got such a positive response and it got real for me, once I saw that my content actually speaks to people. I don't really know where my website is going, but I DO know it's on the right track. So, I feel that I am on the right track.
