Using current events in your business
Before I jump into the meat of this post, I want to give a reminder that it is against the WA rules to make the focus political here.
I can see where this topic could become just that, so please refrain from commentary that could be construed as just that. I get that there are likely charged emotions one way or the other on this, as I myself have my own thoughts on it.
But the scope of this examination isn't on the dynamics underlying the cause. It will be on the cause itself and the opportunities it affords your online business.
CLOSING OUR STORES IN YOUR AREA.
Not surprisingly, due to some of the actions in certain areas such as San Francisco on how to deal with crime, many businesses are closing their stores there. Citing a slowdown in foot traffic to theft as the cause.
In just that one city alone, I've read of multiple stores closing. Walgreens, Target, and the latest I read yesterday, Nordstroms.
My sympathies to the residents there who are finding their shopping options dwindling due to events beyond their direct control.
HOWEVER...
Their misfortune can be your gain.
As they continue to see their shopping options dwindle, this is the perfect time for an affiliate to create localized websites targeting the vacuum being created by these departures.
I've read time and again that local SEO is much easier in many cases to attain that competing with the world.
Those misfortunate folks in the areas being impacted in such a way still need the things they were buying from those stores closing.
They need clothes, they need food, they need music, they need electronics etc.
THEY NEED OPTIONS.
You can be that option and likely score quick SEO wins by throwing them a lifeline on getting their necessities and shopping needs redirected so they can acquire these things.
And make no mistake, you will be doing these folks a favor as many of them likely never considered or wanted to shop online to the extent they will need under the changing dynamics of their local area.
It's win win for all involved.
You can show them where to shop, how to get these items delivered right to their door. You can show them in some cases where it will be cheaper perhaps than it used to be driving to the store and dealing with the traffic and crowds, and as of lately the crime.
Something at least to consider as we move forward. There are many opportunities available for us as marketers and bloggers in the changing events that surround us if we are fluid enough to understand them and their shortcomings.
I hope this weekend finds you well.
Thanks so much for reading, and I invite your thoughts on this, and perhaps tips for implementation.
Regards,
Jason

Hi, Jason
I feel sorry for the computer illiterate and phobic elderly who depend on those local stores to fill their needs.
Many of them do not have robust family support systems to help fill the gap.
Frank 🎸
Yes, it always impacts folks like that who have little recourse in the matter. Those making the rules don't care so much for them unless there is a talking point in their own favor it seems.
Hopefully they can find some neighbors who can be of help.
Regards,
Jason
Yeah, we help some of our elderly neighbors throughout the year with a variety of challenges.
It’s the right thing to do. 😎
An interesting read Jason... basically when one door closes another will open...
I just hope the poor folks who have lost their offline businesses and jobs due to this are able to find an open door in order to keep earning...
Saying that... it is indeed a great opportunity for those already in the online business world to expand their businesses!
Thanks for the share my friend and enjoy a wonderful weekend!
I often wonder why so many stay rooted to localities that make life more difficult.
I'm currently in one myself due to my partner and see so many struggling who could just uproot and go somewhere easier to live.
Obviously not all can do this, but many could and if it became an epidemic those in charge would have to change something.
Indeed this could be a great opportunity for an online business to thrive. :)
Thanks for stopping by.
Regards,
Jason
Absolutely Jason! That is why I keep moving around!
But I have been in France for nearly nine years now!
You're most welcome my friend! :-)
I've interacted with many who move not only countries but continents online. The most I ever did was hitchhike across country several times for a couple of years when I was a much younger optimistic young man.
I've had the great fortune though to meet many online in communities who backpacked and learned skills like permaculture. One young lady backpacked through South America and one stop she made was this inn in the middle of forest.
The military there would stop by regularly to help themselves to the food, so the industrious owner there planted leafy foods in the surrounding woods that looked like just part of the forest. The soldiers didn't recognize it as food, hah hah.
You must have many amazing stories you could share.
Regards,
Jason
Interesting, Jason! Of course, the reason those stores are closing is because of legalized theft. I hope you target the law-abiding citizens with this, my friend! A great idea though!
Jeff
Yes, theft has been allowed to become an acceptable norm. The result leaving many good law abiding folks with fewer options. Understanding this and sliding in to fill that vacancy is an opportunity ripe for plucking.
Thanks for weighing in, and hope your day weekend is off to a great start.
Regards,
Jason

Hello Jason
This was great and a very interesting blog post.
It is sad to hear about the crime and store closing issues in the US. I really hope things get better for all of those people.
I like your thinking and you discussed a great concept which has given me food for thought and something to think about if something like that ever happens here in Australia.
Thank you again for this great and very interesting blog post Jason. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts. All the best to your success.
Regards
Timothy Balla
Hi Timothy,
It is sad to read that the folks representing and hired to protect the folks aren't doing their jobs. I have felt bad since I was a child for folks stuck in high crime areas who can't afford to move and are stuck in the midst of a scary situation. I remember reading a few years ago in the Afghanistan war one was actually safer statistically being a soldier there than living in a good part of the Chicago area. It boggles the mind.
Thanks so much for the kind words, and glad they can give rise to ideas in being creative in our blogs.
Regards,
Jason
You're welcome Jason and I agree with you. All the best to your success.
