I'm sure most of you probably know about this already, but it took me a long time to figure out and I am hoping that this posts might help others in the same boat as myself.

So, yesterday I logged into my Google Analytics account and was shocked to find that all my data have just mysteriously disappeared. As in , there was no data AT ALL, like it was a brand new account. I hoped that it was perhaps a server issue and decided that I would wait until today and try again. Low and behold, this morning when I tried again, there was still nothing. So I went on a frantic search to find out what could possibly be the cause and how I can fix it.

I checked that I was logged in to the correct account, and I was. Then I went to check the "Change History" and found no suspicious activities. I looked around here in WA and asked in chat, and although there were many solutions or troubleshooting, I still couldn't solve my specific problem...

In exasperation, I finally went to check if the tracking code was still showing in the header of my site, and yup, there it was... not noticing that my tracking code number have mysteriously changed. Luckily, I decided to check the tracking code against GA too and picked up the difference. It was similar, but the last few digits changed.

That had me on a search as to why it would just change all by itself without warning or notification, and I found my answer on their forum : It is apparently a common issue with wordpress sites. The code will be changed if you change a theme and you have to update your website with the new code. I was playing around with themes a few days ago... It all makes sense now and is easily solvable. I really wish there would be some form of notification though - unless there was, and I missed it :P

Anyway, I hope someone will find use of this information :) Thanks for reading.
