Raise Your Expectations

New mountains show up in our lives every day. If conquering them will be our greatest source of pride or result in the ultimate pay check, then we should learn how best to scale them.
The spark
A while back I visited a foreign country to attend a gathering of people from almost every continent of the world. As is often the case when abroad, you are better off changing your home currency into the local one to avoid being taken advantage of in any transaction.
The ignition
I therefore set about looking for a forex bureau to exchange my home currency and upon finding one, I went right in. After glancing at the rate and doing a quick estimate of what I’d receive, I handed over my money. The clerk quickly counted out the worth of my home currency in the local one and handed me the cash.
I then looked at the denominations I’d received and realised that the smallest was quite a sum in the equivalent of my home currency. I therefore thought it ‘wise’ to ask the clerk to give me smaller denominations. His answer blew me away!
The explosion
Clerk: This must be your first time here isn’t it?
Me: Uhmn... sorry. How could you tell so fast?
Clerk: Well if you were from around here, you’d know that the denomination you seek to change down further isn’t worth much. You’ll spend it in a flash!
Me: (A little embarrassed) Well.. Thanks for the tip. Goodbye
The lesson
We all come to Wealthy Affiliate carrying experiences from our past, things we consider very important and once here, before we ascertain the value of the trainings, blogs etc (local currency), seek to impose our knowledge, experience and notions (home currency) on this new platform.
This can only be a recipe for shortchanging our own learning experience and losing out on what is of weightier value; WA’s rich training compiled over years of experience.
All the mountains you’ve conquered before have contributed to your growth so far. That’s great and I don’t intend to water it down. However, it’s now time to raise your expectations to the new peak that’s at Wealthy Affiliate. The only way you’ll make it to the top is by being humble enough to disregard your old style of doing business and embrace the tips and training offered here.
After all, you wouldn’t be here if you knew it all would you?
