“You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.” Zig Ziglar.

This quote by Zig Ziglar always reminds me why we want to achieve our goals in life. This quote also explains the best way to get to where we want to go.

My grandson who is a free-thinking from the “Z” generation wants to start an urban clothing business along with his skateboard shop.

Of course, his ideas on how to do that differs drastically from his mother and his aunt (my twin daughters). They argue over the basics of how, what, why, and how.

I just listen to the discussions and lend little advice to either side. However, my daughter made me stop in my tracks when she told him. No matter what you do, your goal is “to be of service to others.”

Whether you sponsor a benefit for urban youth, or you volunteer to teach young skateboarders in the community, you must offer a service that benefits your prospective customers. Your reason for being and wanting to start a business must be one of service.

Her statement stopped me for a moment as I contemplated her wise words. When you start your business, you have a dream of what you want it to be.

The most successful companies are those that prioritize the needs of their customers and strive to meet their needs.

By providing value to others, these companies earn trust and loyalty, which in turn leads to greater success.

My goal or “dream” is to earn 10K per month. I had to stop to rethink my goal.

How would my goal help my community? My real thinking was evident in a quote I found online: "Money can't buy happiness, but it sure makes misery easier to live with."

Am I being of service to others or just fattening my wallet? I had to go back to the drawing board to rethink my purpose.

My conclusion is that the dream must be for yourself, your family and for others.

On a personal level, being of service allows us to practice humility and selflessness while growing a business that serves our community by impacting the lives of those around us.

Use your dream to better others. What a concept.
