Warning about certain links
My husband has just told me about some news he read online that basically said if you happen to link to media news e.g, newspapers, then there is a chance you will be charged something called link tax.It could be any amount, from £500-£1000. Something to do with European Union rules on copyright. I don't know if this has been made law yet, but I thought this was something we would all need to know about.:-))Steph

Your link on my sire has just raised the number of people visiting g your site. I'LL accept your tax of £500 and raise you a £1000 per individual visitor . ..lol
Yes, Chris, if they played fair by us that might happen, but who has ever heard of a government playing fair. We all need to follow your example, if we live off grid then we are invisible:-))Steph
it makes sense - there are copyright issues if something is copy from a magazine or paper. If you give proper credit you are pretty safe, but just using published text can get you into a lot of trouble.
Hello, James, if we are going to allow ourselves to fall guilty of plagiarism, then I agree with you, we deserve all we get.
No, this is a link tax, brought into being in the EU, if we link to a newspaper to put a point across, then by using that link we will be charged a tax, more than a little maniacal I think.:-))Steph
Doesn't appear to be law yet but it's got to be about the daftest idea for a tax I've heard for a long time.....
The logistics of just trying to keep up with something like this would be close to impossible (nevermind how expensive) - so I wonder if it isn't intended as a form of internet censorship....? £500-£1000 per link, IF it could be enforced, would certainly stop a lot of info spread.
Anyway, if we don't live in the EU it won't affect us.
A lot of laws now are very e expensive to keep with, but Governments do not seem to worry about this. As you say Cate, if you are not in the EU it shouldn't be a problem for you.
I have mainly posted this for the members of WA who do live in the EU. Thanks for popping in and leaving your comment:-))Steph
This will have the opposite effect if implemented. I don't think there's anything to worry about here. Pages lose rank with less inbound links which will reduce traffic. This is just another dying gasp from members of an obsoleted industry that don't know how or can't adapt, in my opinion.
Wonderful comment Kenneth, and also very true, thank you for popping by and giving your input.:-))Steph
