Pictures Opening In A New Tab And Bigger

So, I have been following the directions in the training and visiting people's sites and giving comments on and off their sites, and they have been doing the same for me. One thing I notice a lot is a lack of extra attention to all the great pictures people have.

I went to a lot of effort to size my pics kind of medium sized for my pages/posts. But then a lot of extra effort to ensure that, if somebody clicks on the picture, they get a bigger version of it. And also so that it opens in a new tab so they don't have to hit the "back" button to get back to where they were. They can just X out that tab.

After you post your pictures on your page or post, then click on each one and you will get an edit pencil which brings you into a new dialogue box. In there is a drop-down list that lets you tell it to link to "Media" --which will be the original bigger size of the photo you posted--and farther down in the same dialogue box is a check-box that lets you tell it to open in a new tab (that one is near the bottom). I think both are very important. I mean, if it is about baking, like mine, or travel, it is important. Not so important with some other topics.

Very nice. I have been wondering how to do this. Thank you for sharing.

Have A Great Day ! Bert

Thanks

I should add to this that your original pics should be resized down to about 640 x 480 ish before posting them in the first place. At least something under 2000 in both directions. b/c even if you size it thumbnail size for your website, you don't want them clicking on it and waiting for a bazillion-sized photo to load, which most photos from digital cameras and smart phones are.

Great help Sandy, thank you :)

Thank you Sandy, think I'll tag this.....

Yup, there might be a problem with trying to show a 300-pound pumpkin pie!

you got a 300 pound pumpkin pie? i usually resize my photos to around 600 pixels wide before i post them on my site at all. i wouldn't want to wait for a 300 pound pumpkin pie to show up on my screen at full original phone camera size!

That's such a great point and tip. Nowadays I just assume whatever website I go to will have pictures like yours so if I couldn't enlarge them and stay on your site, I'd get distracted and move on. Our attention span is so short online. All these little details matter more than we realize. I agree with you, these things are so important.

they suck up a lot of time too, but that's quality content! and opening stuff in a new tab is so important b/c you want your site to still be live for them. even with ads it's an issue. i had to paste in code to make my walmart ad open in a new tab instead of taking over my tab!
