Which one do you use?
A personal Facebook site or a dedicated business Facebook site.
If you want to keep your business and your personal life separate then use the business Facebook platform. It’s a fine line when it comes to dealing with family and friends and in my experience I have lost “followers” on my personal Facebook site because of mixing business with pleasure.
For the sake of this tutorial (and the experiment) I will set up and use a Facebook business page, that way I have more control over my followers and who I advertise to. If my friends and family want to join in then they can do so!
How to set up your business Facebook page
I don’t want this tutorial to be a ‘how to’ on getting registered with Facebook so I will be assuming you already have a free account with them, if not go to www.facebook.com and follow the instructions.
First up, you need to create two pictures; a square logo picture (or an image of yourself) and a rectangle shaped ‘theme’ picture. You can see mine below:
Create Your Business Page
Next you will need to create your Facebook business page (the link can be found at the bottom of the signing in page titled: "Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business".
Click the appropriate business category box; in my case it will be Brand or Product:
...and then select what type of business you are and the name of your business.
Business Description
You will need to write a short description of what your business is. The best way to do this is to imagine a friend asked you what your website was about. Whatever you would tell him is what you should write (you have a 155 word limit here, so get to the point!).
If you can’t read my description in the picture it is:
This site empowers people to be deserving of wealth, uncovers the latest online scams through product reviews, and there's a great business opportunity!
When creating your Facebook domain name keep it branded and short (shorter is easier to type and remember). I am using my website address but not the ‘dot com’ on the end as that would too long and look silly:
http://www.facebook.com/myrighttowealth.com
vs
http://www.facebook.com/myrighttowealth
Next upload your profile picture (the square one)Coming to the end now...
Finally, decide what type of visitors you want. This can be change at a later date if you want so do get too uptight about it.
Once you click the ‘Save’ button, you have completed the setting up aspects of the business Facebook page. Congratulations!
