Google has made it clear that it wants to understand the content of our websites better. To that end they have effectively asked webmasters to open up the content of their sites like never before. Earlier this year they had asked to be able to read and interpret the structure (javascript, images, and CSS - see the fetch and render tutorial) so as to be able to experience our sites like our visitors do. Now they want to be able to quickly find (and share with searchers) specific details about our content (title, who wrote it, and when it was last updated). Google also is forcing websites to become more mobile friendly. We have been warned in unambiguous terms that sites that aren't mobile-friendly won't appear in searches made from mobile devices.
Let's take a quick look at some new things Google is showing us. Later we'll have some tips and bits of code to help you get a jump on the competition to adapt first.
