Go to your website and check a post or page showing your newly added sidebar or footer widget to check it's showing correctly.

Click on it to check the link goes to your social media site as planned.

This method is not dynamic, like the Jetpack publicise follower count from Wordpress.com, in that it doesn't authomatically update itself. But every time your followers reach a new number milestone, you can simply repeat the process to include the updated count.
