I've found an easier way to Create Screenshots

Screenshots - How To Make Them - Step-by-Step

Wealthy Affiliate has recently added a cool new feature which allows us to upload images when we ask questions or reply to someone else's questions or write comments on their posts.

In the last few days I have received a few requests to explain how to create screen shots so here we go.

This is Windows specific - sorry to all our Mac users, my MacBook Pro is gathering dust because I don't know how to use it. However DesShinnick has provided instructions for Mac computers in the comments below. Thanks Des.

So down to business.

  1. Make sure that the window you want to show is the active window on your computer screen.
  2. Hold down the Alt key then press PrtSc (or PrtScn). This places an image of the active window into your clipboard (memory).

  3. Open Paint (see https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/resize-and-insert-an-image-where-you-want for instructions on how to find Paint).
  4. Right-click doesn't work in Paint so you'll have to use Ctrl+v to paste your screenshot.
  5. Click on 'Crop' to start cropping your image.
  6. Click on the image in the place you want to start cropping and drag the dotted rectangle to cover the area you want to crop.
  7. Click 'Crop' again to apply cropping.
  8. The 'Crop' command is now grayed out. As far as I can tell this is the only way Paint allows you to crop an image and when you've cropped it you can't crop it again unless you create a new blank image and paste the image again. Hey, it's free so we can't complain about little things like that. And you've still got the screenshot in memory so you can just repeat the Ctrl+v again.
  9. If you're not happy with the result then you can use Ctrl+z to remove the image or create a new picture and Ctrl+v again then go back to step 5.
  10. When you're happy with the cropped image it's time to resize.
Your image needs to be at least 200px x 200px to upload successfully to Wealthy Affiliate with a maximum width of 540px. I usually resize my images to 500px wide to make them easy to see. Just make sure that when you resize both width and height are over 200px and you have a check mark in the 'Maintain aspect ratio'.
  11. Save your image to your computer's hard drive. Thanks Loes for the Windows 8 image.

Yep - I love Kiva - been with them a while - the idea of a 'leg up' and not an 'hand out' is so cool.. :-)

For Mac's it's "Shift Command 3" for screenshot or "Shift Command 4" select a crop of the screen. As usual it drops to your desktop. From there it can be exported in one of many formats. Import into any photo editing software you prefer. We are soon to see iPhoto replaced with a new improved photo editing software from Apple.
