My experience, at my age with computers, is only very basic. I am understanding what I have learned so far, but applying it is something I may not be successful at. Is there someone at any level that would help me when I am ready to actually put my business up/live for results?

Hi Norman,
Welcome to WA.

I can understand your doubt due to lack of experience.

I can assure you the course is pretty straight forward and easy to follow.

However I would be most happy to help you along. May I suggest you do some research before choosing your niche? I did a small blog on market research recently. This will help you to decide on the type of business you wish to build. Since the primary purpose of starting a business is to make money it is important to choose well. You may also read here about niche vs market. When you need help moving on be sure to reach out to me. I will be happy to help.

Hope these help.

All the best.

After trolling around google, I noticed a website with a very similar name and theme to mine. I came up with "fishkeepersguide" and the already established site is "fishkeeperguide"
I love the title "The Fish Keepers Guide" but am concerned with the similarity to an already established website.
What is your advice? Should I push forward and try to beat their website, or delete my site and start over with a new name?

Thanks,
Nathan

Hi - it's not necessarily a question of beating that site, but are you infringing on their copyright? They may consider that you are trying to cash in on their already established name. You could face legal action.

Hi

We should never compare ourselves to others vs be unique and do our thing.

Check if the domain may be copyrighted, trademarked and ' or registered to an established business, then you need steer away, as you do not want to build your business and few years down the line end up with a law suit.

Here's some insight how to go about choosing an appropriate domain name, however please be aware hosting is provided with a premium subscription to the platform.

You can use Namemesh dot com - look in SEO & MIX columns

You can also use leandomainsearch dot com, you input a word and it gives you another

And godaddy valuation tool to find a memorable name.

Nowadays domains are not so affected by SEO vs writing quality rich content with good choice of keywords, latter of which would rank you in the search engines.

I would always go for a dot com domain name vs dot net or dot org as people's perceptions when they start typing they would typically assume it is a dot com. And make sure it is spelled correctly as it cannot be edited once purchased.

Also I would not include dashes, may be one dash permittable in some situations.

Hello,
It is from my understanding that business names and domain names are not protected by the copyright law, but more so the intellectual property of the site itself (the blog posts themselves).
Again, from my understanding of copyright and trademark laws, I would only face legal action if their name was trademarked. I checked their site, and with the Trademark Electronic Search System, and it doesn't seem that "Fish Keeper Guide" is protected in any way.

Do you agree with me? I think I'm legally safe to use "The Fish Keepers Guide"

You may be safe, but since you are just starting your site I would choose another name. Your suggested name is too similar. You can get some additional ideas from namemesh.com

Good evening or morning everyone!

I know a fair bit about using a website for cash flow, and I'm curious, are these websites set up to be monetized with advertisements?
It seems important to max out every cent possible from a site visitor.

Hi

They can in due course, however a website needs traffic and for it to get traffic you need content.

To create content, you'd figure out a focused niche.

A niche subject is something you are passionate and genuinely interested in could be a hobby or an interest, and know so well you can write plenty original content about.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

For example if you are in yoga
Yoga exercises for beginners

When deciding on a niche try narrow it down to a more specific niche, you can ask yourself the following question:

So I want to help people with ____________________ ?

Fill in the blank and you are going to get closer to a specific audience. Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Once a site starts gaining traction, traffic and authority you can then scale to cover another subcategory.

See example blog post below You can do a google search
Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location
and see what results you get

Meanwhile I'd ask as many questions as I want to get clarifications,

Welcome to WA and our community.

Yes, from what I remember; if you are talking about putting Ads on your site. It should come up in the training. Just keep following the training; and you should get to the point about putting up ads.

Sure thing. monetize with ads if u want.

But the basic aim to build a website here is to make it RANK in Google or other search engines for KEYWORDS that people online usually search for.
Reply
Benjamin89 Premium
It comes down to personal preference. I realized that it made sense to maximise all earning possibilities when I started out, including ads revenue. Wouldn't worry about it yet until you get some momentum with your content and visitor traction first.

Some experienced members do have advertisements in their sites.
Glad to hear you have a background in this already. I would suggest that you follow the WA training and learn its approach as well. You will pick up some very good tips.

So after this lesson and going through some of the searches, I think I've narrowed my niche to all things golf after 60. Does that sound too broad? My intended audience will be those at least 55 and older and I would be addressing things unique to seniors playing golf. It's definitely different than playing at 35 or 40!

I'd appreciate any feedback anyone could give on this direction, and thanks.
Reply
GeoffreyC1 Premium
If you can cover absolutely everything then it's not too broad. If you can't, then it is
Reply
lbholston Premium
Reasonable. For the things I have in mind, I believe I can cover everything. I'm thinking health, equipment, and technique. Thanks for the feedback,
Reply
DCaribbeanQ Premium Plus
I'd suggest that you start with one. For instance, health until you have exhausted that and pretty much establish yourself as an expert then move on to another (like technique) and so on. You can even group them in this manner.

All the best.

Thank you for the feedback. That also makes sense. Sometimes I tend to get a little too ambitious a little too fast. So do you think a reasonable topic (niche) could be maintaining fitness (health) or golfers over 60?
Reply
jghwebbrand Premium
That sounds narrow enough and helpful.

I do but don't take my word for it. Do your market research to find out if this is a viable niche.

Here is something I wrote recently that would help you to understand some things you need to know before you go into any new market. The point of doing research is to ensure your niche is a profitable one with lots of products and an abundance of customers.

Additionally, I suggest that if you do decide to proceed that you read daily about your niche in forums like Quora and Facebook groups,

You do this to find out what your potential customers are talking about or interested in.

Read books on the subject too. You want the ones that are selling well and has great reviews.

This also indicates their interest. You will need to educate yourself on what they want to know and keep educating yourself so you become the go-to person in your niche

All the best.

I don't think that it's broad. That's a group of similar people with similar goals and needs, which is what a niche means.

Hi guys, I'm new to the platform and I'm a little confused about the concept to narrow down the niche.

I don't understand why it is not recommended to create a website more broad, so that I can write easily and unlimitedly about different topics related to the main niche?

In my opinion, I consider that by segmenting the niche I will be in the situation of being limited to writing articles. Can anyone explain to me the benefit of segmentation? Thank you in advance.

From my understanding it will be harder for your website to get indexed by google. By narrowing down your niche to a specific topic you can select keywords related to the topic making it index higher in google.

I was thinking the same when it came to generating content as you are. Hard to write multiple blog post on one topic. I chose NFL gear so I have a wide range of topics to blog about.

Someone with more experience may be able to give you better advice than me on this subject. I'm kind of new to this myself. Good luck of choosing a topic Indyra-Bs.

Hi James, thank you very much for your answer. It could be a first point of view. But I have come across many websites where their domain does not give an absolute understanding of what niche it is. Only if you start browsing the website.

Narrowing a niche as a concept sounds counter intuitive, BUT
Here is something to think about.

There are millions of websites and lets' say my niche is shoes for the family. That would be a very broad niche. If I type that phrase into Google I get the following results About 1,250,000,000 results. )that's my competition and my site is new and not ranked.. If I narrow my niche to gym shoes for boys i get the follow results About 88,400,000 results (at least 40,000,00 less competition). If i type gym shoes for toddler boy I find .About 24,400,000 results (that's a lot less competition. If I type "gym shoes for toddler boy with wide feet" the results are About 0 results (there is no competition. That is used only as an illustration to show that if you narrow your niche scope to start with your site will not have as much competition and you have a much greater change to get Google to notice your site and get traffic. As your site gets established and you get traffic then you can expand your niche scope..

Niche examples with narrow scope. It is important to start with a narrow scope.

Camping essentials for beginners as a niche subject Computer essentials for beginners. Strength training for women over 40. I help women over 50 lose weight with yoga, help new Moms find the most important baby gear to cope with their first year as a parent

How to narrow a niche down How To Expand Your niche later Once you get into your niche you will be surprised at how many posts you can write. How to's, guides, comparisons, best ofs, reviews.

INDYRA,
Welcome to Wealthy Affiliates. The process you are learning is specifically designed to help you build a website. Keep it simple, and once you get that down, they will lead you in adding on and expanding. If you can keep it simple at first, then you can focus on the site-building process. THEN add to that as they direct you. Otherwise it could become too complicated while you are still trying to learn the setup process.

Blessings and joy to you as you join in our chats and establish yourself in WA.

I am just going to say; in my opinion; if you want a broad Niche? That is okay. I am just going to say; and no Offense meant to anyone. I am just saying this; please no one take Offense.

From what I understand; the training is going to be updated soon. I just want to say; if you mention this to the right Members. You might get an answer on this. All I can say is; you might want to ask Members with Great Rank.
