Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the Websites menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through video called "Creating Your Initial Website Content (Framework), showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it. Watch the video below.

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Real Deal Affiliate, About RDA)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURDOMAIN.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the YOURDOMAIN.com and YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, not a Post is because Pages don't allow for comments. You don't want people commenting on your Privacy Policy, whereas you are going to want to allow for comments and engagement on the rest of your website (as it is good for rankings).

NOTE: If you do publish as a page and there are comments there, not to worry. That is just how your "theme" you chose was designed and it will not present any issues moving forward.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. If you have any questions about the creation of your "about me" or "privacy policy" pages, leave them below.

Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

Tasks 0/3 completed
1. Watch the "Creating Your Initial Website Framework" Walk-through Video
2. Create & Publish Your "About Me" POST
3. Create & Publish Your Privacy Policy PAGE

I would like to warn you some affiliate programs are actually MLM's which will force you to buy products before you can earn by promoting them.

Any affiliate program that tries to charge you or you must purchase products to earn I would stay clear of, they are using the title affiliate program to get your money

Just be careful

I know many people from Wa in the past who follows my Facebook page has bad experiences with these programs, and I just was hoping my warning might help some of the members stay clear of MLM's

Many now don't claim to be MLM's to get people to join their programs, I am happy you have no interest in them

I do recommend you purchase a domain name for the low price usually less than 20.00 per year, and I would take the time to find a dot com website address even if you have to change your website's name.

People will trust a site more with a dot com name than any other domain extension, but if you have your heart on a name that is taken then you might have to consider what domain extension to choose instead, but I would sacrifice if I had to the name I really wanted to get a dot com domain name extension

I chose Mentoring With Jeff simply because I was pretty sure I would be able to get that in dot com, so it is something to consider before getting your domain name extension you can always change your website name

Just something to think about,
Jeff

Noooooo! Completely disagree my friend!
TLDs (the .com, .net .org) really, really DO NOT matter. If you can find a good domain name but it only has a .info or even a .me TLD, grab it and run with it.
Also most other TLDs are cheaper to buy than .com

Why do I disagree?
Most of our visitors will come to our site/s through links - not by typing our website names directly into their website browsers.
When you follow a link - do you look at the URL to see if it is a dot com or a dot whatever or do you read/watch the content and say "Yes, that's what I want!"?
If the content isn't what you want then by all means click away, but don't click away just because the site is a dot whatever.
Also the search engines DO NOT attach any kind of significance to whether your website is a dot com or org or net or whoopsdaisy - they used to but it no longer matters!

I thank you for your opinion, but most people will purchase from you quicker if your website has a dot com extension unless you are an organization

We all have our own opinions, but I have done surveys and the majority of my readers and followers on social media has voted to trust an organization or a dot com website before a any other business that is brand new

Truly? Wow, I never knew the dot com scam was so ingrained. Fair dues Jeff, I've been corrected but I don't agree.

Kindest - have a great holiday and I hope 2020 is all you want it to be and more.

No problem Dom,
I am just sharing what my reader's surveys showed me how people online think when coming on a new business, I think the reason is from so many scams people just trust dot com at first or organizations feeling more comfortable.

Could be you would get very different results from a survey from a different business niche.

Hi, I've just started my first website, but I wasn't given a choice of design - as a starter, the instructions said I'd have a choice of 12, but actually only one came up, and the rest were premium. Can I look at the other designs available to starter members and pick one?

Hello from Nottingham! Oddly enough, if you look just below my reply to you, you will see that Ethan asked the very same question. Take a look at my answer. I wonder if things have changed, and they now only allow one theme for starter members.

Hi. First, congrats and wishing you the best of luck. I had the same issue, only 1 theme. Just go along with this one and hopefully, we can get some answers from Kyle

You should be able to search for all the theme designs and choose the one you like the best, you just go to your dashboard and find themes and click on that and type in free themes

This might be under settings depending on your theme, but if you check each option in your dashboard you will find themes listed and this is what you want to click on to find all the free themes. WordPress provides default themes, but you have man more to choose from.

Depending on your niche and what you want to do with your website can help you decide which free theme to choose, and if you need any assistance please contact me and I will do my best to help

Thank You, Diane,
You would know more than myself since I created my WordPress website off of WA If your dashboard has a theme section you should be able to type in free themes and find more choices, but that might not be the case with WA

Hi - starter members only have a limited number of themes to choose from. It used to be between 5 and 12, but it now appears they have no choice, and are only given 1 option.

Thank You, Diane,
That really is not a problem they can always change their theme when the become a premium member and everything will transfer to the new theme

I thank you for sharing this with me

Hi - I spoke to Kyle about this yesterday. Starter members are no longer given a choice, but the one theme they are given is state of the art, super-fast loading and ideal for following along with the training, which will be updated shortly.

Good morning everyone! I have a question. I wanted some advice. I watched some of the training already related to building the website. I transferred my domain to WA earlier this week with a code from wix. It's taking forever to be transfered. It seems like it's taking the entire 7 days to process. I checked wix.com yesterday and they said it seems like I did it correctly. Is there anything I could of missed?? Also can I just start building the website now on a free domain here at WA and when the transfer of domain is complete later this week (hopefully) then transfer the domain to the website?? That way I don't waste more time waiting for the transfer to be complete and start building thhe website now during the Holidays. Thank you!!

Hello Camille, and Welcome to our community. I suggest you contact site support by clicking on the help center tab on the bottom of the page to the left

IN the mean time just keep looking at the training, and write your posts on a word doc for now, when your site comes up you can transfer the posts from word directly to your site

all the best to you!!

Phil

Hi - yes, you can start by using one of your free websites. It's a simple process to transfer everything over, you don't lose anything.
You may wish to contact Site Support, by clicking on the Help Center to ensure there is no problem with the transfer. Wix websites are built on a different platform.

Hi - copy and pasting from Word directly to WordPress isn't always a good idea, as it can mess up the formatting. Using Notepad is a better idea.

Very good question Camille,
You can build another website through WA in your training, but you would need to talk to Kyle or someone who has done this before to be sure if you can transfer or not

hello I am not sure what my niche is as yet. All i know is that I will like to help people. Also I was wondering if this site accepts payment from skrill. I will really like to purchase the $19 one month offer but at the moment I can only do it through skrill.

For your own niche, you think about what you love doing if it's helping people then there's something for it. After all, helping people is a business you just need to figure what is it that you can help people with. For sites and domains, it is done through PayPal.
Reply
Jeffreybs Premium
You know that is an awesome question, I only seen the options PayPal or Credit Cards when I became premium. You can join PayPal for free and it only takes a few minutes to create your account if that helps, I have never heard of your payment choice so maybe it is not used very often

Leslie-Ann,
I also chose a niche to help people, and you can find many to choose from.

Children Programs
Animals
Pets
Self-Improvement
Training / Education

Stop and think first how do you want to help people, you could help low-income families, seniors, or even people living with a specific type of disease or illness

I hope this helps
