Alright guys so using stop words during my keyword research has really SLAMMED the brakes regarding my SEO efforts.

In this short video tutorial, we're going to cover how to actually find your true QSR and competition in case, like me, you have also found yourself finding keywords that are TOO good to be true.

In this example we're going to explore the difference between

"how to lose weight with a fast" and"lose weight fast" and WHY I should have searched the latter of the two during my keyword research.

Please share this, make sure to hit that green like button and leave a comment or questions so we can help others!

Make sure to go to https://kb.yoast.com/kb/list-s... and do NOT use any of these words in your keyword research!

Thanks,

Mike

PS - Major credit goes to Jovo (jvranjes) for getting us some good information regarding stop words. You might want to continue on to check out his training called "how about stop words" which can be found here:

Here is a very helpful article from CSEO concerning stop words and the importance/implications of using them and/or omitting them in your SEO efforts.

Thank you. I thought so intuitively. Thank you for the research you've done to prove it as a fact.

Best,

Hey Julia,

I am so happy that you have been doing this intuitively! I have wasted maybe 35-40 articles not doing this technique and therefore many of my articles aren't getting ranked.

Now, hopefully I can change this :)

I have done the same, probably wasted a good chunk of my articles! I wonder why this is not mentioned in Kyle's training on keywords?

Good training but, I remember in the WA training, keyword has to make human sense when you`re searching it.

Ok let me clarify.

When you are doing your initial keyword research, it is best to research the keyword WITHOUT the stop words (before you write the article) as discussed in the training.

So when you are researching in jaaxy, for example, you don't want to research "how to train your dog to walk on a leash" - instead you want to search for "train dog walk leash" so you can get the true QSR since the search engines do not care about Stop Words.

Hope this helps.

So when THAT comes up with a good QSR, you can then insert your stop words back in to your title or whatever since you know that the stop-word-less keyword has great competition (QSR under 100).

You should read this: https://captivatedigital.com.au/stop-words-seo/

Stop words don’t really matter when it comes to SEO

The issue I have with that statement is that they (in my opinion) actually do matter - especially when it comes to keyword research.

Since the search engines largely ignore stop words, it is ideal to find your competition in jaaxy (QSR) by researching the same phrase without the stop words in it, as in the video example above.

This will reveal the keyword's true QSR because by researching it WITH the stop words in it, your QSR will be artificially less competitive.

Hope this helps.

I understand what you're saying when it comes to doing keyword research and it makes sence you always want to find the true QSR.

Google ignors the stop words so it can parse websites faster but "how to lose weight with a fast" and "lose weight fast" both phrases are considered the same by Google.

Exactly! That's exactly what I am trying to convey. So in order to ensure we don't get an artificially enhanced QSR we must research without using stop words.

Thanks for stopping in and for the further clarification.

that's very helpful thanks! Now I know why stuff doesn't rank or doesn't show up in SiteContent as being indexed (perhaps).

Will do some research with jaaxy on this this week. Steven

Hey Steven,

Thanks for stopping by to check out the video. Yes, it appears as though many of my SEO efforts have been mucked up because of this.
