I have had many people here at WA and some outside who have asked me about selling and making money on eBay. I have been planning to do this training for several months now but was debating on whether it should be one long tutorial or break it up into two or three parts.

As you can see from the title of this tutorial, it will be at least two parts. There is just way too much I want to share from my 15+ years of selling on eBay. To fit it all into one tutorial is just not a viable option because there are too many selling options available to you.

CAN EBAY BE A FULL-TIME BUSINESS?

The simple answer to that question is yes, but only if you sell a lot of items every week, mainly few items every day. When you get to the early stages of this mass selling you will be known as a PowerSeller. There are a few stages of PowerSellers, all tied to how much you list and make per month.

In order to become a PowerSeller you must consistently sell at a specific level for a full 12 months straight and then maintain or sell more than the minimum requirement. Just like with any kind of online business it will take time and hard work to achieve your financial goals.

When beginning your selling on eBay you must first realize that your profits are going to be small and in some cases nonexistent in the beginning. This is because in order to sell on eBay, you have to pay them. Then in order to get your money you have to pay PayPal.

The minimum you will pay eBay to list an item is 30 cents. When an item is sold, eBay will take 10 percent of the total. Example: If you sold something for $90 + $10 shipping, the total the customer pays you is $100. eBay will then take $10, which is 10 percent of $100.

Now PayPal will take a minimum of 2.9 percent + $0.30 or $3.20 ($2.90 + $0.30). So after all of the fees are taken and shipping is paid for you will get $76.50. The breakdown is below.

Sold Price =========== $90.00

Shipping ============ $10.00

Total Received ======= $100.00 (Minus the Following)

SHIPPING

Cost for Shipping ---------- $10.00

FEES

eBay Listing Fee ----------- $0.30

eBay Final Value Fee ----- $10.00

PayPal Payment Fee ----- $2.90

PayPal Transaction Fee - $0.30

BALANCE DUE YOU == $76.50

I am glad that you are making it on ebay. I am new selling on ebay, I have been a costumer for a while and I decided to sell something. I made the mistake of offering free shipping and the sell went faster than expected but when I went to the post office they charged the price of the item and with the fees of ebay and paypal I am in the negative balance. I wanted to see if some things around the house that are almost new and I do not use could sell. But you are right, I have to do my research to see what things sell. Thank you Robert, great training.

Thank you! Seeing that you are just starting out, you never want to offer Free Shipping unless you can cover the cost. Like I said in the training, free shipping only applies to the buyer. The seller will always have to pay for shipping if the buyer does not.

When you do decide to sell your items around the house, make sure you fully describe them, pointing out if they are damaged in any way and make sure to post at least 2 or more pictures. The more you can show and truthfully describe, the better it will be.

You are welcome! I hope it helps you to better understand. Selling on eBay does require some experimenting to see what is what. But like I said in the training, becoming a buyer first will help you to better understand eBay before you become a seller.

Someone was warning me of DS Dominiation and I'm glad you mentioned it.

Thank you. I'm happy you liked it. I mentioned DS Domination because what they advocate is not real drop shipping and does not turn a real profit like drop shipping with a wholesalers does.

Because of DSD there are some online claiming that Drop Shipping doesn't work, when in actuality it does work. Only the DSD version doesn't work too well.
