No matter how clever you are, your website will have a degree of cannibalization, which needs your attention. It can hinder your website SEO performance. Many pages on your website that look similar have the possibility of not ranking on the search engine. The simple way out is to analyses the pages affected and do the correction or fix it.

The nature of cannibalization can be in two placements:

1) At meta data-level:

Consider this scenario when your website pages with metadata focusing the same keywords; this is the source of cannibalization. You need to fix the real problem by adjusting the metadata.

If you have an eCommerce website selling bags with three similar pages, showing the below metadata.

Something like this could occur in your eCommerce website, having different categories with your motive of targeting some specific keywords.

It is very advisable to differentiate metadata to target purposes in focusing on some subgroups.

If the problem is from the metadata, then you have to tweak your metadata again in the aspect of description and the keywords.Consider this scenario when your website pages with metadata focusing the same keywords; this is the source of cannibalization.
