Step 2: Get Your Google AdSense Ad Code

Once you’ve logged into your Google AdSense account, head over to the ‘My ads’ section on your main menu. Then click on 'New ad unit' to create your AdSense ad.

Here you will name your ad and choose which ad size and ad type you’d like to use for your site. Once you’ve done that, hit ‘Save and get code’.

Tip: Have each ad you use named differently to easily compare performance. This way you’ll know which ad is generating revenue or performing poorly by narrowing down different variables, e.g. ad location, ad size, ad type, etc.

After hitting ‘Save and get code’, a window will pop up on your screen (seen below). Here you’ll choose which code type you’d like to use and then highlight and copy the code (Mac: Command + C ; Windows: Ctrl + C).

Hi, I am trying to insert banners and even Google Adsense, but obviously just copy/pasting the link into the blog/page doesn't work...
I have looked under the Appearance tab on my Wordpress site, but I do not seem to have Widgets there! Please tell me this is not the only way...

Hi! You first need to install Quick Adsence plugin.

Wow that was easy and quick. I signed up for ad sense but I didn't paste it on my website because I didn't know how to do it then I received an email today saying paste your ad code so I went to type and look on how to do it. I found your tutorial. Very easy to understand. Thanks a lot Belinda. Jenny

Hey there Belinda thx for this, worked great for me.

Just wondering, do you know if a single ad unit is set to auto-size, can a person simply use that one single ad unit throughout a site (ie in a sidebar widget as well as in main content on various pages) and have the whole thing work out OK?

The reason I ask this is because in the interest of keeping things as simple as possible, I would be happy to run with a single ad unit if it does the trick.

Cheers,
chris

I've got two problems: 1. My ad space spills over the border of my website. So I created a new ad unit with a smaller size and that resulted in a webpage error, so I went back to my first ad unit code. 2. I see nothing when I highlight the area. Now what?

You need to find out the width of your sidebar, some themes let you adjust this. Then pick an adsense ad to fit the width

Hi Scott, did you manage to fix this? I have got the same issue, but I don't really want to place ads anywhere other than my sidebar...
I tried using the Google Adsense plugin and it was pretty useless.
Cheers, C.

Yes Claire, I did. I was able to adjust the size of the ad once I placed it in my sidebar. Kinda like a custom fine tune, if you will. As far as my second problem I listed, it just went away. I guess Google was in the process of reviewing my site as expected and said by bellabs12, but I wasn't able to see anything until Google approved me.

Awesome, Scott. Glad you got it sorted, and much appreciate your quick response to me. I shall stop getting frustrated with it and do the same :)
How is it working for you? Are you getting many clicks? I am sceptical, as personally, I never click on ads/banners.. in fact, sometimes I will click off a website all together if I feel like it's one big ad campaign. So, I am a bit nervous about adding advertising.
Thanks again

Clair, I made my first dollar last week. $1.40 to be exact. I'm very selective as to what I what advertised on my site. So there are a lot of the same ads on there. I just don't have any traffic right now, and I think that will be the challenge for all of us if we are going to succeed at this.

Congratulations on making some money!
I managed to get adsense set up, then adjusted the size of the banner, like you indicated and it's working fine now. But I'm thinking it's a trial run and will take it down if it doesn't create any revenue.
I'm in the same position, I need traffic!
I'll pay your site a visit so you can add one more visitor to the list :)

Thanks Claire. Treat every little accomplishment as a success! Just one more step in the right direction. We can do this!
As far as traffic, I haven't been targeting keywords, which is my fault. It's something I have to work on. But it's all a journey, and I don't plan on giving up. One day at a time...

That's the spirit! :D
I think it's important to celebrate the small successes, so we don't lose sight of why we're working out butts off right now.
If this is a marathon, I think I might be at the mile one marker!
I was going to say 'best of luck to you' but I don't believe there is any luck involved. It's all down to us.
So, instead, I look forward to seeing more of your success soon!

Thanks I got my adsense ad up and running but it does not fit properly. The right edge is cut off and for some of them you can't read the whole thing. Not sure what to do about that. I've posted a question so hopefully I will get an answer. http://weight-management-diet.com/
