As we all know, categories and tags are the two "default" ways (taxonomies) to sort your content in Wordpress.
Usually, categories get more exposure due to their broader scope, which gives tags a little less attention ...
And that's wrong because tags are well-suited to specific ideas within the context of your articles ... In other words, they can help you to make your site more user-friendly.
And here's the thing ... As you constantly create new content, you’ll have more and more new tags ... Your categories will be there in your sidebar or navigation menu all the time, but your steadily growing tag collection may often remain less explored.
Of course, Wordpress comes with a default "Tag Cloud" widget that will allow you to display all your existing tags in your sidebar or any other widget-ready area ... However, the default tags widget will show all your tags alphabetically, and if you already have a lot of content/tags, that could be a really long and hard-to-digest list ... More than that, you cannot rearrange their order or limit the number of tags to be displayed ...
Luckily, you can easily solve this issue by displaying the most popular or most often used tags. This will allow your users to quickly get an idea on what topics are more frequently discussed on your website. And needless to say, it will also help them discover more content, which means more page views and user engagement.
This is why I've decided to create this short tutorial where I will show you how easy is to display your most popular tags on your Wordpress website.
