Here is the first semi-live training video from myself, with a little editing, I hope you like the style, but if you don't, then please do give me constructive criticism, as there's no point me doing these if they don't benefit you :-)
Please find part of the transcript below that contains the steps required.
In this lesson we are going to be looking at WordPress, and in particular, Pingbacks & Trackbacks.
Very quickly, what are Pingbacks & Trackbacks?
Well, they are a method for other blog posts out on the internet to let another blog posts know that they have linked to them from within their post.
I.e. If you have written an awesome piece of content that another author has found and liked, and they decide to mention your post within a ost on their own website, then you will more than likely receive a Pingback or Trackback in the form of a Comment.
You can then deal with this comment as you would any other comment, I.e. you can either Approve it or Reject it.
The purpose of this lesson is to show you how you can disable these Pingbacks & Trackbacks, as to be honest, they are usually used by spammers to send you junk comments.
OK, so let's get started.
To find the Pingbacks & Trackbacks settings, you need to login to your WordPress backend, which is also known as the WordPress Admin, the Admin Dashboard or the WordPress Back Office.
Once you have logged in, you need to click on Settings and then on Discussion.
From here, you can then untick Pingbacks & Trackbacks.
You will also notice just above this setting, that you can also turn off Pingbacks & Trackbacks from your own posts to other posts out on the internet.
I.e. If you do not want to notify other website aurthors that you have added their posts link to your post, then you can also turn this off from here.
Whenever you make changes within WordPress, always ensure that you click Save Changes.
If this training is now out of date, please let me know below or via PM, and I will get it updated for you.
If you have any questions about this, feel free to leave a comment below, and either myself or one of the other great WA members here will get back to you.
Thank you for watching :-)
I have been getting a lot of spam comments on a domain hosted here at WA, so I followed the steps you outlined in this training. SiteSupport also told me to add ReCaptcha and anti-spam bee to my site. That's the first I have heard of that. Do you have any opinion on that?
I received my first pingback and had no idea what it was. Could WordPress actually ping my website for an internal link? That's what it seemed like it was doing since the page that received the pingback has no external links.
Very strange.
Kerry
Thanks for forewarning me about spammers, a few of whom I've had comments from, none f which were comments that were of any value.
Fantastic as always.
Just a quick question if I may please:
You speak about "disabling" pingbacks and trackbacks that OUR Wordpress site may send to blogs that WE are linking to from within our content (if we want to).
Is there any particular advantage/disvantage to doing this/not doing this?
e.g. Would we be viewed as a potential spammer by sending a pingback?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
On a completely separate note:
Has anyone EVER seen Chrystopher, Christine, James, or Batman on the same video at the same time?
Coincidence?
I think not...

Your video was fun and original and your voice is great. Personally I don't like introductions but your assistants did a great job and the video is professional. Well done.
