It's a well-known fact: the site speed is a literally vital SEO factor.

And we all know, that image optimization is a key element for achieving a reasonable loading time ...

This is why we are talking so much about offline image optimization, image optimization plugins, lazy loaded images, etc ...

Still, there are situations where follow up actions and improvements are required ... For example, a multi-author site where is really hard to monitor all the images uploaded by other users ... Or newly purchased websites ... Or hastily created created beginner websites ... And so on ...

Needless to say, resizing dozens or hundreds of previously uploaded images would be a real nightmare ...

And yes of course, there are cool image optimization plugins like EWWW Image Optimizer for example ... But, usually these plugins will ...

  • require a permanent installation (even with temporary deactivations)
  • allow you to resize exclusively images uploaded directly to the media library
  • resize every single image according to the provided size limitations

So, what if I told you that there is a way which will allow you to ...

  • use a plugin that can be simply deleted once the job is done
  • resize images uploaded within a page or post, images uploaded directly to the media library and even images uploaded elswhere (backgrounds, theme headers, etc)
  • define different maximum sizes for each scenario mentioned above
  • exclude any images you want

Well, there is a way!

And I've decided to create this short tutorial where I will show you how easy is to to bulk resize previously uploaded large images in Wordpress.

Interested?

Let's do this ...

What is the best size for images within a page or post?

What about images uploaded directly to the media library?

What about images loaded inthemes/headers/backgrounds, and logos?

These are 3 questions that imsanity ask. What would you recommend?

Your post or page content will displayed using a given width defined by your theme. That should be the exact width for the images used in your posts and pages. The height doesn't really matter, but a 4:3 aspect ratio usually looks better.

Similarly, any other image size (backgrounds, related post preview images, logos, etc) are defined by your theme template files. If you can't find any related information in the Theme Customizer, then you can use a tool called Pixel Ruler to measure each default image size. You can download it here
