Hey friends,

I know we all come from different parts of the world. What Wealthy Affiliate mainly teaches is how to build English websites to either promote WA or make money through promoting other affiliate programs.

However, I know many of you here may have some ideas in your mind to build websites in your language and leverage the local make money opportunities.

I wanted to do that as well. For me, I wanted to build a Mandarin website as I'm from Taiwan.

At first, I thought in order to do that, I need to purchase a domain name else where (not in WA) and install Mandarin version WordPress manually. Because once we hit the build website button in WA, the default language is English.

So, let me show you what you need to do to build a website in other languages in Wealthy Affiliate.

Here's the scope of this training:

  • Step 1: Purchasing a domain name
  • Step 2: Build your website in WA
  • Step 3: 2 Ways to change your website language
  • Step 4: Keyword Research, SEO & stuff...
  • Conclusion

Let's begin!

Great training but I am a little baffled. I am making a site in Greek and am using a Greek phrase written with Latin characters. That's very common in Greece because of the difference in the characters of the Greek alphabet. However, everything else is in Greek, including the titles of the posts. When publishing, permalinks are created with the part that is referring to the post, in Greek. Shouldn't that be changed but isn't it also true that keywords should be reflected within the permalink? How does all this affect SEO? Thank you in advance.

hi Ioannis -- very thoughtful, considered comment by you and it's all Greek to us! ... lol ... chuckles ....

Sorry -- we work in English on this platform and it's a real challenge to come up with some intelligence on Greek and matters of SEO ... as the main search engines are programmed for English, as far as our understanding goes ...

Best practice is to test it out in a 'Sandbox' as Jay has suggested in a number of his weekly trainings ... hope that might help you ... all the best, cheerio ... 😊

thank you for your reply. After having done a little research, I have found answers to some of my questions. The reason I would like to go for the Greek market is because of the novelty of affiliate marketing in this country and because of the help many people need in finding ways to make ends meet because of the 10 year old crisis and the unemployment it has caused. I think it will be easier for my site to rank and I hope that there will be interest for alternative ideas to working. We'll see. Cheers!

I am Swedish and I want to be able to have my site and posts in English, but I want to create a "blog" for my Swedish followers, is this possible on the same website? I have a .com domain and I'm wondering how this will affect my SEO...

So my question is if I can have a bilingual site without using any plugins?

Thanks for your awesome training!

Why do you want to create a website in English but your blog is targeting Swedish?

You should just create a site in Swedish, shouldn't you?

Hi Madeleine,

Literally speaking it's achievable without plugins ...

If you are ready to create your content in both languages, you should simply create a clear site structure accessible via your main menu

And obviously, you'll have to invest time to do the right SEO for both languages

Hi, Jerry
Do you know how can I possibly be accepted from the English company affiliate program with my mandarin website? And also can I use the links in all of my subdomain website? Thanks
Reply
JerryHuang Premium
Hi Emily, I'm not sure about that. You can still try applying but I'm not sure what will happen. Application for affiliate programs depend a lot on the company itself.

It'll be harder to get accepted using subdomain websites but it's still possible.

Thanks for your reply. Let me rephrase, can I use the affiliate links (that are approved using my domain website) and add into my mandarin (subdomain website)?
Reply
JerryHuang Premium
Yes, once you're approved for that affiliate program, you can use the affiliate links anywhere you want :) It doesn't have to be the same website you used to apply.

Hi Jerry,
Thank you for this training.

I'm Croatian and I wanted to create bilingual site. I tried different plugins, but non of them worked, so I created two websites, one on a domain (English), and other (Croatian) one on a subdomain. In this way I had two websites.

Also, like you mentioned, I had problems with keyword research because Jaaxy didn't support some of the Croatian letters. I didn't know about Google keyword planner. In the end I discovered that Croatian market is too small and it's not worth the effort.

Hi Mia,
If you're doing a local business then it definitely helps. If not, try to focus on a larger market and target audience.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience :)

Nice work done Thanks!
Last hurdle is to have the person in that foreign country know "enough" English to follow the training here and in WA! =)
I have a son in Israel, though he knows English its not good enough to go through the certification course & bootcamp in English! Wish they had it in Hebrew...or any other language at that!
Reply
JerryHuang Premium
Thanks. I think that will be a good opportunity for you to create your own course in that language and help those people in the country, making money at the same time.

That is what I have in mind as well. I plan to create my own course in Mandarin and promote in Taiwan.

Yes that could be an option...though I am not sure how that would integrate with WA...I would like to use their platform for this...I am no computer genius, but I would love to have the certification course and bootcamp in Hebrew...
Would you suggest to just "translate" each course and publish it as a blog here on WA? Would that work?
How do you want to do it in your country in Mandarin?
Reply
JerryHuang Premium
I may work with other professionals or simply utilize online course softwares to create the course in Mandarin.

I wouldn’t recommend to just translate everything and publish here. You should create your own course/platform in your own style.

I understand what you are suggesting.
This for me will have to wait until I am farther along with my online business.
Thanks ! And good luck! SF

WP language change refers to changing the default WP language is it?
Reply

Yes, exactly.

In my theme there are very few Things which are not translated , for example "Read more", but I can live with it.
Reply
JerryHuang Premium
I see. There will definitely be some minor translation issues but they won't affect your website/business much.

All the best N!

Jerry, thank you for this comprehensive lesson for blogging in other languages. I noticed that the other day a new member had blogged in French. Only one person could write her a reply. I will look for that plug in for other languages.

Great Post Jerry. I have a .co.id TLD website in Indonesian (Bahasa). I did not want to use the translator because it often loses the correct sense of the Post. Also I do not speak Bahasa so it is not practical to change the default language. So I write the draft Post in English, use Google Translate into Bahasa then my wife (who is Indonesian) corrects it and we have it proof read by another Indonesia .. then Post it.

There are a few words in the default WordPress template that still appear in English on the site but in Indonesia that seems acceptable. I can get that may not be appropriate for a Mandarin site.

You said: "Also, your Permalink should always be in English regardless of your website's language. This is better for Google to understand and rank your posts/pages." Do you have any evidence for this or is it just your "thinking" .. for example Indonesians are searching in Bahasa not English so how would Google correctly rank a search if the permalink is in English? FYI the Bahasa Character set is the same as English.

Cheers, William.

Hey William, thanks for sharing.

I think I need to rephrase it. For example, Mandarin doesn't use English characters so there's an issue when setting the permalink. Some people will use Mandarin characters in the permalink which is not SEO friendly. (I read some articles about this.)

However, for languages that also use English characters, you can stick to your language for permalink.
