When you choose products, you will want to investigate them further, even ordering items to try them out. For the sake of time I did not take that step.

I had an amazon store. And it did nothing. I did make a sell to a friend of mine who was shopping there anyway. I made 1.45. Of course I signed up from a different company that said, hey you can make lots of money here with an amazon store. Well, they called two weeks later wanting me to spend $5,000 dollars to promote it! So I've heard these stores don't do well, unless you friends and family by from there and they will use your store for each purchase.
Otherwise, creating a new store site like you are talking about, (I think) it would be like targeting traffic to a brand new website. Will take lots of time and effort. And then possibly fail to work.
So it was only $49 dollars to have them create the store and set me up with passwords and such....but the deal was the upsales!
Shoot buddy. If this is your passion then go for it. But just a word of advice. Been there and tried that! :) What works for one does not always work for someone else though. I will gladly read your lessons here as for training purposes though.

You are absolutely right, what works for one does not always work for someone else!
As far as targeting traffic to it, I put the aStore as a tab of the website.
If I used it as a stand alone url, sure, it would be like targeting traffic to a brand new website.
