A few weeks ago I saw an interesting question posted by a new WA member ... She was trying to find a way to edit her own - recently submitted - comment.
As I told her at that point, the default Wordpress installation does not allow users to edit their comments once it is published. And that's OK ... The reasons are pretty obvious, and I'm sure that any site owner can easily understand them ...
However, we shouldn't forget that we are not only site owners, but commenters too ... We are posting comments on several sites on daily basis. And let's face it, we often feel the need to edit a comment after hitting the "Submit" button!
Believe me, it happens all the time. To all of us ... Maybe you'll want to correct a typo or a grammar error ... Or maybe you just regret saying something silly ...
The point: if you are running an active site with a decent number of comments, you should consider allowing users to edit their own comments for a short period of time.
And here's the thing ... If your site has registered users, you'll be able to leverage the Wordpress user roles and capabilities in order to allow some users to edit their own comments. But, most sites do not require users to register before commenting! By default, Wordpress will require just a name and an email address ...
Hence the logical question: wouldn't be nice if you could allow non-registered, anonymous users to edit their own comments for a short period of time?
And of course, there is a solution ... So, I've decided to create this short tutorial where I will show you how to allow users - for a short period of time - to edit and/or delete their own comments.
